You may have remembered that ages I was going to start a new Social Network. I must admit it was a big step to starting something like that but I'm going to revisit that idea and tell you why there is a point in doing such as thing.

First of all, the userablilty; I don't know about you (the community) but I hear time and time again and also experience social networks being way to complex to use. Always breaking and full of bugs here, there and every where.

What I propose is a social network simplified. Just you, and your friends with all the features you want and need but simplified into to suit the end user, not to make it look flashy.

Now I recently saw a post by Luke M and he said that he'd consider making one, competition is always good and it was mentioned that it could be really hard to pass Facebook, Twitter etc. But really? Is it?

Let's get to the point.

A social network with features you want but without pages and pages or options and things to read. Simplified profiles and a straight to the point system for you to interact with friends.

Now I'll need a team for this, but whilst I wasn't at FP I learned a bit of PHP and the likes which will help for sure. So with the assumption that I can get something to show in a a couple of months I would like to think we'd have anew social network added to the bunch.

What are your opinions on this? Anything you'd like to add?

To be able to get some substantial growth, you need to strongly consider your own site first.

What can you bring that is different, and why would people move off from one social network onto another?

Not that the majority of the world is on Facebook, moving them onto another full SN site is incredibly hard.

If you successfully start your social Network. Sell advertisement spots to support the site and you can generate revenue from that. A big way if you have money you can advertise on tv which hundreds of thousands of people can see. This would get you a LOT of members. They'll say "Hey! Theres a new social network that opened. Let me check it out."

So what you need is:
-Powerful Social Network
-$$$ to keep advertising

Yes my personal site will always be running. It is done and the only thing I need to do is maintain it. I'll still be designing as well. This is another side project.

It's easy to question the whole idea and say it will fail, a lot of new sites here do fail but without trying I'll never know if it'll be good enough.

The whole point though is not what does Facebook offer, and what could mine offer that's different. It's what does facebook offer and how can I make that better for the end user and still have that option that people like.
