Hi folks!

A friend recently asked for my help reviving a completely dead forum with several thousand members and tens of thousands of posts. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for my friend and I! Would there be a way to "take advantage" of the fact that we are not starting with just a few threads and one or two members?

Regards,
Zane

Definitely a posting competition, with money involved. Thats going to attract a lot of attention, and will be beneficial for you as well.

Either money or merchandise promoting your forum.
You could always get a graphic designer to design a logo, pay for the shirt/hoodie and send it to whoever wins the prize of the posting contest.

Posting competitions may work, but if it isn't advertised too much, it may just become a waste of money and time because of the lack of participants.

Just start promoting it! Like it's a new forum. Don't delete anything, don't wipe it out, deletion is "internet arson" as my friend put it. Just go plugging around for a few members and keep at it and it should grow. After all, it was successful once, right?

...several thousand members...

That's the real asset in your forum. Can you email or send a mass PM to tell them the forum has been reactivated? Try to include some additional incentive, to encourage them to return and participate, such as a contest?
