When a forum wants to moderate new threads to take control more, i say meh but ok, sure you got good reasons
When a forum gives you permission to post else where ONLY if you post an introduction, i again say meh a bit too much but whatever OKAY

....but when a forum tells you that you HAVE to post an introduction or else you are not welcome to post here at all AND in the introduction you shall NOT, i repeat NOT, type 1 smiley face, must type with capital letters, shall not type things like lmao or LOL and you shall NOT post any gif images of any sort (so not even a small one that shows your fav moment of a movie or tv show or something) and more ridiculousness of where this is coming from.....
seriously people?

What's your opinion?

Mine:
i think it is completely stupid not to mention discouraging for people to join and oh yeah, taking away people their freedom? and for god sake, why in god's name am i not allowed to type a smiley... what the absolute hell is the harm in that? Is it 18+ ? is it illegal? Last time i checked a smiley face is absolute the innocence itself, like what the actual fak
Why on earth would you restrict people on your forum to use lmao ? I can understand where you are coming from if people constantly post on your forum with just THAT ''lmao'' as reply as that is considered ''spamming'' by a lot.... fine i get that but this.... even if i post a fine , normal , civilised introduction and it contains lol or lmao i don't get accepted? and why? because almost every person on the internet uses the word lmao or lol?
What's wrong with these people >lol<

look, i get it, it is your forum so you can do whatever the hell you want with it
but WHERE in the world is the sense to make it so limited for people that they can't even type a smile face or won't get accepted into the forum if they typed Hello instead of hello .... what even?
So people are not good enough for your forum if they type hello instead of Hello? are you freaking joking me?

these type of forum regulations blow my mind, i seriously can't

I don't blame you. If I ever came across such a forum I don't think I'd be able to even sign up, let alone continue on after seeing how things were managed. Yikes!

Yeah, that seems like they're being overly controlling. I do have a section where members can post an introduction thread on my forum. Now, I do like for people to introduce themselves when the join so that I can welcome them and get to know them better, however, I don't MAKE them post an introduction thread. That forum will not get a lot of members if they are going to be overly controlling like that.

well guess what, they got 100+ members online every day i think, GOD KNOWS HOW
i know it is a total shock, seriously fak knows how they made that happen with such ridiculous regulations going on
maybe they offer people money if they stay and listen to all that crap LOL

I wonder why a forum would be so picky with the introduction of new members. It looks like a trap to me as if your common sense is being tested. It goes to show that a forum can reflect the idiosyncrasy of the owner.

@Pebbles Well, that's something that I wondered. They would have to be offering the members something to be able to stay on a forum where the owner is a control freak.

indeed and yes that is exactly what is going on and what they are doing and it is fkd up. Like a smiley face, ''lmao'' or hello instead of Hello makes you less smart than somebody else? It is absolutely preposterous to even think about that people are being judged like that and then want to join a community they think is interesting to join but then don't even get a chance just because of some shit like this and i bet the owner of that place is not just a control freak but also very full of themselves, there is no way someone ''normal'' would put regulations up like that lol

most, if not all of us, own a forum here and we are the complete opposite of that fkd up place
and yet here we are, most of us struggle like a bitch to even get a member base online of 50 people daily lol
(not that numbers matter that much but still)
blows my fkin mind

Well, I would just not participate in that forum then. I wouldn't if it were me. You can go on and be happy knowing you are free to people who are that controlling.

1) i wouldn't join
2) its just immaturity that you post a smiley face like it isn't anyone as long it not just a smiley face like a thread on just one face
3) lol I don't get whats wrong with it same as the smiley face it isn't bad as long its not spamming the forum
4) What forum are you talking about (you should show us) as it sounds very interesting

That mention of "control freak" reminds me of one forum where the owner is too picky with the rules. I have already posted this before so I don't have to repeat. I was accused of tagging his forum as spam. But I wonder how and why because I certainly have no idea that a site can be tagged as spam. Another issue is the off topic board that he doesn't want me to create new threads. Oh well, my impression of the owner is a control freak.

Honestly, if I didn't like a forum and what it asked of me if I wished to become or stay a member then I would just leave and be done with it. However, I don't know what this forum is or the why behind any of their actions. Having an idea of why they chose to have such a standard as the one they have can yield information and understanding behind why they do what they do.

It sounds to me that they have some sort of standard that doesn't jive with you but that's how it is everywhere. You can either live with it or flee but honestly there are some standards that are nearly universal among the forum world so if those don't jive with you then forums clearly aren't for you. They have the right to set the standards they want and you have the right to either obey them and stay or reject them and leave.

the standards that i mentioned this place has got up are not normal forum standards at all, so not sure why you make it sound like they are..... and i would know because i been a forum whore for yeeeaaaars now and i have never seen shit like this before.
so why are you telling me forums are not for me just because i state that 1 forum has got rules up that are clearly freaking ridiculous? (unless you think it is normal they won't let you in if you type hello instead of Hello, degrading and misjudging you on a freaking capital letter, just to name an example...)

like i said in the first post, yes they can do whatever the fak they want with their forum but that fact does not make these rules any less ''shit'' in reality

if you believe any of these shit regulations are ''normal'' and happen on a lot of other places,
please do tell how many forums you know of that got these exact same ridiculous requirements up
just cause i am curious really 🙂

and FYI, i am not upset about any of this and the ridiculous rules they got up, like i give a tiny rats ass that i cannot join 1 fkd forum lol, i just wanted to know what others thought; are these rules truly ridiculous or is it just me....
and clearly it is not just me, good to know 😀

I think forums are a free venue. It shouldn't be the case people are forced to do anything. In fact, it's often the case, a lot of the members are doing you a favor by even being there anyhow. (Note: I'm not including spamming and trolling in this assessment.)

It's not that unusual to see someone have standards that another disagrees with. I myself had such an issue with a forum once though I figured the best course of action was to complain to the admin myself via their feedback forum instead of walking all over the place talking about it with people who can't resolve the issue however that eventually led to my wrongful banishment which led to an uproar in which member after member got banned until the staff grew so sick of the admin's behavior that they walked out and the forum shortly shut its doors soon after. I'd say if you are getting emotional and feel compelled to talk about it somewhere speaks to it bothering you and that you care or otherwise you wouldn't have gotten emotional or spoke about it anywhere.

Every forum has a list of commands they demand out of you which is what you normally call forum rules. They don't seem like they are forcing you to follow them because you agree with them but when you don't is when you see what I mean by being forced to comply. You can argue that they are wrong or unjustified but if you do then I suggest you expect one heck of a fight to get them to changed as most usually will dig in their heels and battle it out to keep the status quo intact even if the change would do them actual good.

Sounds like they're on a power trip. Or maybe they just have no clue what they're doing and think that's how a model admin should act. Not that they'll admit it.

I'm sure it's going no where fast. My rule is for a forum to be as simple and as much freedom as possible. Had plenty of success with that in the past.

Sounds like they are just looking for things to moderate. I wouldn't join if it had that many dumb rules. I have put a rule on the forum that people aren't allowed to post image posts with no text. If they do it, mods have a right to delete it without warning. They can still post images, but it has to accompany a real post. It's just really annoying when someone responds to a fairly good thread with a meme pic and nothing else. Or, as a way of winding up another user. The thread turns to total shit after that lol.

We don't require an intro, but we do encourage one so that members get to know the new person a little. On our old forum, we did require an intro for a time because we were being bombarded by bots. I'm not sure what it's like to run vBulletin now, but back then we were being absolutely plagued. Forcing people to post an intro to get access to the rest of the site was a bot busting measurement and that was explained on site. Eventually, we found a way to limit the bots without doing that, but that could be a legit reason for a forum owner deciding to take that route. It isn't a power trip, just a way to limit bot users.
