Rippers

Oh you guys, getting so upset over something that you should just let go ~wink~

Nature builds upon itself, that's how it was designed to work. Things can't grow and continue if copyrights limit it, look where it's gotten the world... a few large companies that steal small ideas then make them huge, and since they are so large, the original author can't do anything about it. However, try to copy off them, and you'll get sued to death ~lol~

I crave a world without copyright. I try to release all the stuff I do under KopiMi or Creative Commons. I honestly don't care if someone rips all my ideas, if they can do it better then I can, by all means, please do. However, I always contact the original author before using something they've created unless it's clearly marked as released under Creative Commons first (voiding the need to ask).

Let loose guys, release your stuff free, it'll better the Internet community as a whole rather than restrict it to a few power holders who "make the rules". The world wasn't built by a room full of corporate advisers after all, it was built by small communities collaborating with each other on all levels ~cool~

Free Information from copyright, that's the way it was meant to be originally - http://www.pirate-party.us/

What is meant to be is flame wars among forums. No matter how many users get ripped, just your one message can't do anything on a single forum to get all forums and forum owners to behave, Ghost. It's the way this internet should be. If there wasn't rules or copyrights, there would be no clear use of internet in my opinion. Also, if the internet wants itself to grow more, then it's users should be independent and come up with their own ideas instead of feeding off of other ideas. It's a great feeling free; but without rules, it'd be legal for a burglar to point a gun at your head and blow your brains out. Everyone is free, but there are rules that keep us the way we are... and copyrights help hold that placehold.

@Rok - Ready for a debate? I love this stuff ~cheesey_grin~

I must disagree with that, it is a side effect of people's need to be correct. When a disagreement occurs between two people, it is not always resolved peacefully. A flame war is the same as a minor war in the real world, or a fist fight, or gang fight, whatever you wish to compare it to. They will always happen, yes, but I wouldn't say it was meant to happen, just as wars were never intended to happen, they are a simple side effect.

No matter how many users get ripped, just your one message can't do anything on a single forum to get all forums and forum owners to behave, Ghost.
Well of course! If that did occur i'd be shocked into an early death ~lol~ However, by spreading the message, getting others to follow suit one by one, it can occur. I make sure everything I do is a clear representative of how I would like the world to do, and if even a single person changes a single thing about them to match my ways, i'd be delighted.

I never said anything about no rules, rules are around to keep order, and they do a decent job at it in most cases. I think for most people to understand what my point is, you must look at what the Internet was designed to be; a data and information sharing network that could be accessed by anyone, added to by anyone, and one that would grow as more people added their own personal thoughts. Look at Wikipedia, it is the best example. Almost all of that information was added by it's users, a true community project. Notice that there are rules in place to keep it going fine. Now onto the issue of creating your own ideas, this is of course something that is great when it happens. The creating of new ideas is something special to humans, as direct results of it can be viewed everyday, in everything man made. However, the building of ideas is extremely valuable to our society. For example take a pencil. The original thought was great, made a great product, but look how far it has come by people modifying it and adding their own thoughts? Now you have bendable pencils, mechanical pencils, heck even pens ~razz~

It's a great feeling free; but without rules, it'd be legal for a burglar to point a gun at your head and blow your brains out.
I'll ignore this bit because I think i've covered my point enough, I didn't mean no rules at all.

Everyone is free, but there are rules that keep us the way we are... and copyrights help hold that placehold.
Probably my favorite line of your post actually, because it shows that you have never seen a working model of the edited copyright system. The Pirate Party doesn't want a "no copyrights" system, rather they want to fix the current one. For example, everything would be free for personal use. Only commercial use would be paid for. Do you know how many art students would love to be able to afford Photoshop to enhance their skills, but can't? If they had access, it could change their future completely ~wink~

My thoughts are simple, let us stop making the Internet what the big companies want it to be, and start making it what it was designed to be, a form of data and information sharing accessible to anyone and everyone ~smile~

I kinda agree with what you are saying, and cooperating it to the full.
However, there's one thing I don't agree with, and that's:
My thoughts are simple, let us stop making the Internet what the big companies want it to be, and start making it what it was designed to be, a form of data and information sharing accessible to anyone and everyone
I get on how you are saying that the internet should be shared with everyone. But still, most things can't always be shared. Take, for instance, a forum in which a user displays his/her own graphics (just like a showcase) for everyone to view but not to take. It's kind of like an autobiography of that user if you think about it- but with a touch of copyright. I don't really know if I phrased that quite well because it's past midnight where I am at, and I have a bit of a sleepy side stored in me.

Also, I wasn't necessarily referring to the 'rules' statements in my previous post to no such being. I was referring them to copyrights. Copyrights are what keep the internet a safe environment and what controls priorities throughout the internet lifestyle. Copyrights are what we need in the internet to keep the internet a safe and secure definition. Without copyrights, our television, our internet, our music would all fall down. You'd see movies copying other movies. You'd see free hacking procedures being distributed legally. Without copyrights, the rules would be loop-holed throughout our technological being. Television wouldn't be the same. Our internet wouldn't be the same. Plus, I'd say that over 90%/100% of users wouldn't like to have their original work distributed to the world, or would even like to be ripped of everything they created. So let's say that if a user wants to propose some of his/her artwork, but doesn't want it distributed to other users (because of the non-existence of copyrights), she would have to kindly ask not to have her artwork released, used, and distributed. But by just stating that one command won't make a difference. You'll still see users copying his/her artwork and distributing it. Those problems are is still occuring even with copyrights prior without them.
I can keep going on, but it's bedtime, lol. Anyway, I'd say that we are both correct in the same standards. It still doesn't make a difference though. Without copyrights, things wouldn't be to easy to live with.

I'll make this short post because it's early where i'm at ~smile~

In my view, copyright is currently what keeps the Internet where it is, so you're completely correct about that. Copyrights keep certain sites in power, they keep the artist's companies in power (although *not* artists directly, keep that in mind). Every day Youtube takes down hundreds of videos for copyright infringement. I don't think making a remix of my favorite song counts as copyright infringement, especially when it's for non-commercial private use, and i'm making no money off it. It's clear to me that these companies are viewing the law in another perspective, however.

In most of your post you are referring to "keeping the Internet how it is", which isn't what I speak about at all, rather the opposite. You're right, we can't just change one thing, it won't work. If the copyright system gets changed, the Internet will follow suit, TV will follow suit, movies will follow suit. There are millions of free legal songs out there, how do those artists make a living? There are a few really good free movies as well that's i've watched (and some not so good ones). What about the communities that take Hollywood films and make alternate endings? They would be adding what they think should have happened, yet copyrights disallow this.

The BBC is preparing to release a new TV series that is 100% open source, for the viewers to edit, remix, change, and create. They have even admitted that they will release all the uncut footage, allowing students and such a hands on at home type deal. This is a giant step forward for TV, and I thank them for being brave enough to try it ~wink~ (Source)

For the comment about the artwork... firstly, I really doubt those percentages would be correct, more like 25% wouldn't want their work copied or remix'd, the rest of the artists are already releasing their work under Creative Commons on deviantART ~razz~ Remember, "ripping" would still be looked down upon. Even with Creative Commons, most versions require credit to the original author, so "ripping" would still be bad in general.

"You'd see free hacking procedures being distributed legally." - They already are if you know where to look ~wink~ Just because guides are illegal to host in the United States doesn't mean you can't host them in say the Netherlands, or Sweden, or Southern Africa ~cool~

I was once accused of being a ripper but I just used it for my inspiration. Yes, some words were the same but I didn't rip anything. >_< Just the forum descriptions looked alike but that's all. What's the big deal. The forum didn't open anyway, haha!

But if it goes further than what I did, it's stupid.
