I started roleplaying in a forum with an all-themes-allowed site. Whether I want to play as a vampire in the city or a knight in a medieval era, I can just go to that forum and browse all kind of themes people can come up with in one convenient place. Sadly it's dying, so I've been forced to scourge for a new dwelling, but I noticed that it's kind of hard to find the kind of sites I like. Most sites seem to be niche-specific (Harry Potter roleplays only, etc), and since I don't want to be a wizard every single time I go online, it sounds troublesome switching between sites to roleplay.

What do you think is the best roleplay site arrangement? Personally I prefer a stand alone all-themes-allowed roleplay site, but I can understand how having other kinds of discussions within the forum will make waiting for replies easier.

I do not roleplay all that much, however the only fun part of roleplaying is being whoever the heck you want to be, so I am going to go with a standalone forum with an all-themes allowed thing going on.

I would have to go with standalone specific themed roleplay.

Just so members cant just go outta course, but also If Im gonna roleplay I wanna go on a standalone roleplay site with a topic Im interested in 🙂

So full disclosure, I run a multi-genre roleplay (which according to this poll would be classed as "Stand alone, all-themes-allowed roleplay site" ) so I'm pretty biased to that style. I personally prefer this sort because it means I can write pretty much anything I want. I feel like writing a story set in the Walking Dead universe then I can, I don't have to go searching for a Walking Dead RPG that I like and fits my criteria. (And go through the process of registering, writing up an app and getting accepted.) Or if someone on site already has a Walking Dead RP going then I can just easily join it. Or there could even be cases where there are multiple of the same fandoms but each with different stories being told. (To continue with Walking Dead... one could be about a group of survivors trying to make their way out of a city. Another could be about a group hunting down someone who attacked them and kidnapped one of their group members.)
Additionally I don't need to make like 20 accounts to have different characters, I can write everything from my one account. Which itself is a pretty big convenience so I don't have to bother switching accounts and/or making new accounts for each character I want to play. And for people playing with me, they don't have to wonder who's playing which character... they can see whenever that person posts who that character is.

Though truthfully you don't see many roleplays advertised on FP (of any sort really) for reasons I've mentioned here. If you look on other sites, more geared for roleplays, you'll find a ton more of them. And for those the predominant type is single setting/theme. (Very often using account per character, so instead of registering one account you'd have to make one for each character you played.) With the most popular settings/fandoms being Harry Potter and Marvel universe.

I don't roleplay at all but I went with Stand alone, specific-themed roleplay only site as I think that if I did join a roleplay forum/site then it would be for a specific theme that everything would be much easier to understand and take part in if there wasn't many different themes/types.

Yeah, I have a hard time finding good role play sites. I LOVE to role play, but I prefer ones where you can do whatever role play you feel like. I started role playing on forums that just had a general role play area where you could make whatever kind you wanted. My role play section on my own forum is modeled after that.

Not a fan of ones for just one role play. Honestly they feel...elite to me.

I prefer to just do a casual role play.

YES! EXACTLY! I loathed the idea of having to create new accounts for every genre of roleplay I'd like to participate in. I've had problems with declaring characters when having one account though, sometimes people don't label their name with their character's posts and it gets hard for me to keep up on who's who. A site about the Song of Ice and Fire here has the brilliant idea of offering automatic character overlays on their RP subforum though, I didn't know that's technically possible.

Nice posts by the way, I haven't been here long so I've learned a lot from them.

I get that. I think I'd understand enough basic stuff about the LoTR universe, but I know next to nothing to write about a character in a Star Trek roleplay.

I second that. Tires me so much.

I added a new roleplaying section to my forum. Its a forum in the 'Creativity' category.

I roleplay on a Harry Potter site and I think roleplaying is amazing. The reason why most webmasters stick on to a specific niche is simply because they are of the opinion that they could regulate the game and also give their members in game benefits. It makes the whole process a lot more easier. On the contrary, a forum that allows 'open' characters, regulation is difficult and keeping track of the timeline and storyline is difficult.

You know, we always had a role-playing community, even if I personally never RP'd. The Role Player's Realm was quite active on the old site. It seems to have dropped off a lot since we moved over to Sakuga City. Unfortunately a lot of people quit before Sakuga City was formed due to the effing idiots who bought and wrecked the place. A little sad that that section hasn't bounced back. It was always it's own little sub-community, if you like.
