I am hoping for some input as I am currently trying to think of ways to get my first member(s) onto my forum.

While I have posted the site here on FP I am wondering how good of an idea or bad of an idea it would be to run some sort of giveaway to help launch my forum?

Giveaway's aren't always an answer to things. Meaning you will get those that join do things for the sake of the giveaway then once the giveaway is over they will no longer login again.

Unless you can think hard, meaning to enter the giveaway you have to have X content or have this X with that X

Hmm, I agree entirely and that is definitely one of my concerns that I'd just end up with a bunch of stagnant users. I will think harder about how to implement this idea before executing. I appreciate the input.

So; I joined. What do I win?
You need to fix your security question. It's asking what the name of your site is which is Techs Think but the answer is techsthink which is all one word. There needs to be a space. I almost got thrown off joining but I heard there's a prize?

Ah thanks for that feedback! I'll adjust that bit.

You're right Scrooge! You win the most fabulous prize of being a member on Techs Think! (we have not fully decided to run a giveaway/contest)

SO the giveaways are going to be tech based, Like an new gaming $5,000 system or Xbox's and or Iphones 😛

That will bring in people LOL

I don't think I would join a forum just because of a giveaway because a giveaway is only a token which means a small thing. I would rather join if there is a raffle to win something substantial, say $20 in cash. I have been to one local forum that has a raffle similar to that but the forum is now gone due to the differences of the owners although that's another story.

They say that SEO and marketing are the best ways to get more posters to your forum- this is because you will have more of a natural member that comes to your forum, instead of paying for paid posters. You could find some good writers sometimes to post though, if you pay them, but be careful where you find them, because some will only post low quality content.
