Ok now I have been stressing about this for a while or should I give it ago, Is it possible to run A Site/Forum on A android tablet?
I found apps that allow this and you can code/install mybb themes like you would do on Windows.
I currently dont have A windows machine.
Heres the Apps.
I don't really want to vote "No Impossible" as it isn't impossible. You would need to consider a few things though:
- I notice my spelling and grammar always gets worse when I am on my iPad (such as now).
- I post shorter replies generally.
- Everything is going to take long.
- Can you unzip files? And rezip them? 🙂
If your going to do it make sure you not only have proper apps, but proper accessories. If your tablet supports it get a Bluetooth keyboard($30-$90) and a Bluetooth mouse($10-30). Helps a lot when running a site off a tablet.
Yes it has Blue Tooth 3.0 Support I already have A mouse & Keyboard,Just like Desktop OS I can Zip & Unzip Files I think I can use the tablet as a public server if I wanted to also includes FTP support from apps. (Thats how powerfull it is)
PS: With the keyboard I should be able to write long articles.
I've never posted on forums from a cell phone or mobile device, nor have I tried running one on such a device, but I can imagine it being very tricky. A computer, I'm sure, is much easier for this kind of thing because you can certainly accomplish more. If you want to try it, that's up to you. I just honestly think that in terms of running a site/forum, a computer, desktop or laptop, would make things a heck of a lot easier, both the front end and back end of running a forum than trying to do it from a portable device.
A tablet is way more powerfull then A mobile Ofcourse it does have A mobile OS But its been optimized for Tabl asthe screen resolution is just like A Netbook.
Ive ran sites from A DSi at one point and that was impossible almost, Ive also coded on A IPhone and that is complex But coding from A tablet fells no diffrent then A Netbook running windows (I did have). Only diffrence is A simpler OS, Evrn viewing sites in landscape looks like A laptop view. The processor is 1.5 GHz (Laptop powerfull)
Ive heard Tablets being calked A Tablet Computer or Mobile Computer So I could give it A try.
PS: I can install Debian or Ubuntu since Androids Run the Linux Kernel If I wanted to it will only void warrantly(best not todo it yet)
I tried to run my blog for a month while on holiday off my tablet and it was one of the most unpractical things I have ever done. It's quite hard and you end up just not wanting to do anything that it's so hard to just get the basic things done.
Wine lets you run Windows programs on Linux and soon Android Linux, so soon you can use Filezilla, and other software for running sites on Windows.
I think if you are using one of those pre-built website builders like Webs.com , Weebly, Blogspot, etc where most of the website is managed by the company, so you just need to add content then using a browser is all you need for most tasks like typing articles and uploading pictures via a browser or app to Blogspot, Weebly, and similar premade sites.
I think not many people code their own software forum regardless if they use a desktop or tablet.
I mainly see forums using pre-made forums like phpBB, Invision, and vBulletin where you just upload it, and connect it to a MySQL or similar database file.
I think WordPress has a forum software called BBPress which let you update your plug-ins and the forum from a web browser like Firefox or Chrome. You can also edit, and upload plug-ins from a web browser with WordPress.
It also depends what tablet they have, The google nexus for example would be good in coding but something like A Samsung Galaxy Tab or Surface will be great to code from.
The Google Nexus 10 with its bigger screen would be also be great when connected with a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse.
You are also guaranteed to be one of the first tablets to get the latest Android upgrades, and you can also root your Nexus device to install custom operating system, or even Ubuntu if you know how to, and there is a ROM for Ubuntu.
