‘Superhero’ Melbourne teen saves another life
A Melbourne teenager has gone from hero to superhero after carrying out a third valiant rescue within the past 2-years.In an amazing coincidence the 3 occurrences have all arisen in completely unrelated circumstances.
Yesterday, 19-year-old Sam Porter was working at a restaurant on the St Kilda foreshore when he saw a body floating in the water.
Sam’s father Rod Porter told the 3AW Morning program that his son leaped a surrounding fence, ran to the water’s edge and assisted another man in pulling an elderly lady onto the foreshore.
“He got her onto the beach, she was not breathing, she didn’t have a pulse, she was purple, Sam forced her mouth open, and apparently a fair bit of water gushed out” Mr Porter said.
“He slapped her on the back a couple of times, and she gurgled, and started to shallow breath and got a bit of her colour back” he said.
Sam told 3AW mornings that they then called the emergency services who “were very quick to respond; within 4-minutes there was a Fire truck, and within 5 minutes there were Paramedics and a MICA”.
The gallant act completes an amazing trifecta of unrelated rescues.
In June 2010, Sam went to the aid of a 16-year-old boy at Gardenvale Train Station who was laying on the tracks in an apparent suicide bid.
In March 2011, Sam was the first on the scene of a car accident where he found an elderly lady inside.
His mother told Neil Mitchell at the time that her son helped the woman out of the wreck and organised an ambulance.
Sam is currently working his way through the application process for the Victoria Police force.
It would be difficult to find someone with a more outstanding record!
I also read somewhere else that he said 'trouble follows me'. Seriously seems so.
Good on him! 🙂
