Same Sex Marriage

I'm not going to go into major detail on what i think of the situation.

The way i think about it is, if people of the opposite sex can love each other and get married then so should same sex couples. If you think that it's wrong to be homosexual then you are just ignorant.

Not directing the "you" to you specifically, just saying in general.

i agree to that, actually. 🙂

I say let organizations and churches have complete control of marriage and let insurance agencies make their own choices. The govt needs to get out of it completely so that both parties can be happy. The gov isn't forcing churches which should never happen but also allowing gay-right orgs to form and legally marry gay couples. That is my take!

Right or Wrong? Agree or Disagree?

Same sex marriage is a misnomer. Marriage is and always has been the uniting of one man and one woman.
No we shouldn't be redefining "marriage". Call it a civil union or whatever else. But it's not marriage.

It isn't something that would ever interest me; however, coming from a family that has a few gays in it, I do not see what the big deal with it is. A person loves a person, and sometimes that is just the way it is. Who are we to deny it? The government in particular shouldn't treat homosexual couples any differently, that is for sure.

Call it a "domestic partnership" or a "civil union" or whatever, give them all the same legal benefits as marriage and call it a day. Both sides are happy.

Personally I think since marriage predates any particular religion, no religion should get a say in it. What two consenting adults want to do with their lives is no business of an organisation that they're not involved in.

Now I also don't think churches or other religious institutions should be forced to perform gay marriages if they don't want to. That's fine by me, I can't imagine why anyone would want to marry in a venue that openly disapproved of their lifestyle anyway.

But I think it's very unfair that some people with religious beliefs are trying to claim the word 'marriage' as though they invented it.

Very well said. 🙂

I might be a bit biased because I am gay, however I'll give this a go. =P

Of course I am all for it. Talking about the United States, "religion" should not be governing anything. The fact that people think legalizing same sex marriage is a war stance against Christianity, or another religion, and that some day religion will be no longer welcome in the government's eyes is rather ludicrous. No religion is welcome in the government's eyes, Muslim or Christian, you live in a free country. If you want the government to protect your rights as a religious person than you should not infringe on other rights that are "forbidden" by your religion. Not everyone practices religion, and not everyone seems to understand the fact of separation of church and state.

Two people love each other, they get married. In some eyes, marriage is between God and them. However guess what, in "legal" form, it's really a name that gives legal rights to the partner(s). Your religion has no stance on the government for a reason, we are not a "Christian" nation so anyone who thinks we are somehow against your beliefs should go to law school. 😛

So yeah, I am all for it. I don't think it's right for people to deny someone's love because they don't believe in it. I don't believe in Santa Claus, but you don't see me going to malls and banning Santa or trashing my Santa hat. It's the same deal. Just because one does not believe does not mean one has to ban it all together from everyone else's lives. It's not your life, you're not marrying the same gender, get out of their business.

This is funny to me. I mean, seriously, this debate comes up on just about any forum I frequent. It's rather annoying, really. My personal belief is that if two people love each other, then let them get married and live their lives the way that want. It shouldn't matter if they are African-American, Caucasian, Asian, Indian, Lesbians, Gay, etc. In all actuality, making same sex illegal is discrimination. The last time I checked, the whole country was trying to steer clear from that.

I think everyone has a right to love whomever they want and in that I also mean so should they have a right to marry whomever they want.

I find nothing wrong with it. As always people should focus on themselves than other people. If you're focusing on other people you're either rich and have everything you need, or just really stuck in the 19th century.

What's same sex marriage? ;(

It's, unfortunately, still not a thing over here. I think it should be a thing. Like previously mentioned, marriage predates religion.

@Civil union: That would be fine if the rights were the same, but even then it's still inequality: Why should there be a version of marriage for same sex relationships? That's not only redundant it's plain offensive to have them separated. People are still people regardless of who they love, and all people should have the same rights.
