OK, this is a good one for Halloween. Anyway, some of us know the story. Satan is God's angelic right-hand-man and then pride gets a hold of him. Some say it's because God wanted him to bow to his new human creation.

I have always felt there's more to the story behind Satan's rebellion against God, and his eventual banishment to hell. First of all, hell is a prison for bad souls or entities. It's to keep them away from humans. So Satan was relegated to being a warden of God's prison, literally. I don't nor, have I ever believed God loves humans 100% The bible tells of many times where he's slaughtered humans en masse. The overall impression I have of God is he comes off as a tyrant. As for Satan, I think because many don't see him pushed forward to the mainstream as much as God is, it's hard to gauge if he really is THE EVIL of ALL EVILS? Or just ONE EVIL of MANY EVILS.

The bible tells of many times where he's slaughtered humans en masse.

The Canaanites and the people of Noah's day were not human - but rather fallen angels. I don't know of many instances or anywhere God has called for slaughter against human civilians, especially kids, but rather it was the enemies of Israel who practiced human sacrifice - including children.

God never specifically 'called' for the slaughter of humans, but the floods during the Noah's arc time were definitely en masse murder as I mentioned. Drowning the world except for one person? Pretty big massacre.

The people killed during the flood were all people who had intermixed with the fallen angels and were therefore not fully human anymore which is why Noah, his sons, and their wives were saved because they were still pure in the sense that their gene pool was not contaminated by the fallen angels. This intermixing of fallen angels with humanity was done by Satan in an attempt to corrupt the bloodline of Jesus in order to in a sense end Jesus' mission before it even started by making him unfit to be the perfect sacrifice that can fully wash away the sins of the world.

Satan is not a prison warden who oversees hell but rather one of its prisoners when he is finally sentenced and sent there along with all the other fallen angels that sided with him. Today, he uses the time to drag as much of humanity with him into hell by keeping them blind from their need of a savior by keeping them infatuated with sin so they won't repent of their sins. All mankind has already been convicted of sin and is heading to their sentencing day when they will be sentenced to hell if they end up meeting God without Jesus' righteousness covering their sin which is what happens when a man repents of their sin and trust in Jesus perfect work to satisfy the wrath of God. Christians that truly belong to Christ make it their mission to share the gospel so you can have what is necessary to have your sins paid for by Jesus so you can enter Heaven a free man having had all your sin dealt with when Jesus went to the cross instead of you paying it yourself by an eternity in hell.

The whole thing does seem to have a creepy racist element and no doubt, really out there racists love this stuff - but apply it to the wrong thing.

Race would imply skin color though what we are referring to here is more akin to species intermixing than race intermixing though I am not sure that would make for a perfect analogy but I believe it's about close as you can get.

Well, I view religion as a “user interface on reality.” Satan is not a person, in my view, but an idea with two parts. First, Satan represents the evil in men. Second, Satan represents time and the inevitability of death. Our understanding of reality does not point towards these concepts holding a personification, but they are very real nonetheless.

In those terms, Satan did not literally rebel against god. However, you could interpret the story as man acting immorally, and thus rebelling against “God.”

Men have free will. We can and do take actions that are sometimes good, and sometimes evil. “God” created a world where both good and evil exist. There must, then, be some purpose in both. We as humans exhibit both of these traits. We try our best to be good, but life has variety.

First, Satan represents the evil in men.

I think he represents a misunderstanding. See, what God wants is everyone to trust and obey his every word. However, Satan was jealous of humans being boss over angels, not seeing it as just - hence, lost his trust.
