What kind of scams have you, your friends or family encountered?

My dad had someone talk his way into his home saying he was from the utility company and the guy kept him busy while another guy rummaged through the house. Nothing was taken and my dad now has a good security system and uses that before answering the door.

A friend of mine tried to sell a wedding dress and almost got completely scammed by someone saying they needed the dress asap for their daughter and could it be sent overnight? My friend's heart strings were tugged and she common sense went out the door. Thankfully FedEx was able to stop the shipment while en route and she got her dress back but only figured out it was a scam when the buyer wanted $1000 to get the money put into THEIR paypal account. LOL

I've had plenty of scam calls in the past but luckily I've never parted with anything.

It's a shame but you should always be skeptical of things because someone usually has an ulterior motive.

We lost money out of our bank account 3 times these past 20 years. We were one of many. The one time we didn't get it back. Had to borrow money from my parents to pay all the checks that bounced. A few years back, somebody got my husband's SS# & tried to get unemployment. It had a red flag as he's been working at the same job for over 2 decades now.
I've always been a private person, but I REALLY am cautious giving out any info online.

Years ago someone called me about a holiday to Amsterdam. (pre-internet days). I can't quite remember how I was roped in but it turned out they were taking £70 a month out of my account and I could never ever get hold of them. I contacted my bank and they were able to prove it was a scam so they paid me the money back which amounted to £140. I can't believe I was so stupid.

Tons of scam calls from men with Indian accents claiming they were with the government wanting my social security, computer passwords, and medical records. I just hang up on them. I don't pay them any mind.

Recently scammed on Instagram by a jewelry company. Beware of online shopping guys, especially on Instagram and Facebook!
