Should school students face mandatory drug-tests?

Honestly I think that if the school feels that a student is under the influence of anything, they should call the parents and have them do a drug test or contact the police.

It is not in the rights of a school to run a drug test on students.

I do agree as an 18 year old athlete back in the day I got in trouble for tobacco in my system. Now not only is it not the schools business if you are doing drugs but im 18 and can do it by state laws but a different policy? there is many things in school these days that dont make seance.

No way. There is no reason for students to be drug tested, considering they may do drugs socially and it will still be in their systems but not effecting them they would be getting kids in trouble even when they are not on the drug anymore.

Schools should focus on what they are there for, education and not interfering with students personal lives.

At least in the states, schools can do whatever the hell they want, for example here in Florida a teacher technically has the right to beat the sheet out of students if they feel like it with a paddle since Corporal Punishment is still in effect. Who's to stop them from making drug tests mandatory, its a giant waste of money so I'd say go ahead if they want to test all 2.5k of us in my school, taxpayers would probably get pissed off though and stop giving them money.

I think that schools should try to fix the problem where kids arbitrarily bring guns through the front door and kill as many other students as they want before they waste tax dollars that could go to actually educating students to do drug tests.

They're getting better at that. 2 weeks ago caught a kid that tried to blow up his middle school with some home made bombs in Tampa for the first day because this outstanding piece of white trash garbage got expelled last year.

Guess that is where America is backwards, you are not allowed to touch a student here at all, funny story i was in class a few years ago a teacher put his hands on a student who was play fighting and pulled him away, the student then punched and pushed the teacher into the wall, nothing happened to the student because the teacher put his hands on the kid first.

Yeah I mean in massachusetts it would probably be the same way, the more republicans in an area, the more likely they're gonna get beaten. It's still legal in Florida but rare, as apposed to states like Tennessee.

I wish that was the same here in Florida... something similar happened to em and I had to go through teen court to get a charge dropped.. Florida is one fudged up state if you ask me..

I think schools should test athletes for steroids, and other muscle and stamina enhancing drugs since a student who does steroids getting a Athletic Scholarship to college is not fair for the students who don't do steroids, but are also competing for a Scholarship.

But, for the general student population, no I do not feel drug test should be mandatory unless someone invents a drug which gives students an intellectual or memory advantage over non-drug users.

I've seen people smoking weed at school, sometimes you can smell it. Our school is quite slack it seems.

Just about everybody at my school smokes weed. I personally think the taste is nasty as well as the smell.

I've never smoked marijuana, but I really couldn't care less if someone else wants to do it. Why don't they test for alcohol if they test for marijuana? Alcohol does more damage than pot.

That is not really true. Alcohol probably does the same amount of damage just to a different area of the body.

Drug testing school kids is wrong if the school thinks a child is on drugs then they should call the police and the kids parents
And may be better education is needed

It's called meth...

My school does them randomly, but only if you're in an extra-curricular activity.

I have no problem with this, and I agree with it. If you do drugs, you can't do extra-curricular activities. It's as simple as that.

So teacher's are still allowed to punish kids what we might call "the old fashioned way"? That's pathetic. Getting a whipping in the rear end for a wrong doing was a common thing in the 1930's and perhaps even before, but now there are better alternatives such as detention or in or out of school suspension. Seriously, I would really rather be put in detention as a punishment rather than having my butt whipped. I don't think our high school has had to do drug tests, unless it was prior to prom night or something, but I'm not sure. I know they used to have the K-9 unit come in and have the dogs sniff around for any hint of drugs, tobacco, stuff that shouldn't be in the school system at all, but I don't think anything worse than an inspection happened. If they have had to arrest high school kids before,I don't remember too well.

Not to get off topic, but there are so many strains with different tastes and smell. So you can't really say weed in general tastes or smells nasty.

trainwreck for example tastes like dirt, but some like grape ape taste fruity.

-- 10 Sep 2011, 16:06 --

Uhmm what... pot is alot less harmful then alcohol. How you might ask, well ask this yourself this how many people have died from just smoking pot and pot alone. then compare that number(0) to how many have died from alcohol.

So yeah beer is more deadly then weed.
