What can you tell me about sciatic nerve pain? A friend of mine has pain and no insurance so she's wanting more information because she's not even sure if this is what she has. So how do you know without going to a doctor? What do you do to heal it?

I had nerves pinched many times over, if you are fit and not working or you have done extreme letting work and your bones move too often, then at times, your nerves get pinched.

Has she explained when it happens? what she was doing at the time or what work she does?

I can't answer from an allopathic point of view, but I have a family member who has sciatic. Chiropractic adjustments, massage, stretches specialized for sciatica has helped. Another view is to work with it internally to reduce the inflammation. They'll also find that other issues become better as well.
Hope they get some help 🙂

She said she was cleaning house and doing a lot of yard work. I guess a lot of standing, bending, stretching type of stuff?

What do you recommend to reduce the inflammation? She was going to try a bath with epsom salts. Would that help?

physical work, yeah. IS she always doing it or has she started working on physical work lately? If you moving your body that hasn't had or done physical work in the long term then it can or maybe upset something.

I say physical work or doing exercises every day will help a big deal.

It's probably some new physical work or more hours than she's used to putting in. She had a friend come into town and wanted the place to look good.

Epsom salts will help. A good 2 to 3 cups to a hot bath. Has she done epsom salt before? If not, it feels 'different' in a bath so FYI. It's the magnesium that is extremely beneficial. If a bath won't do it, she can try magnesium oil or supplements. I prefer either a bath or oil myself as the topical gets right to the body faster.
Diet is always key to either reducing or giving inflammation. Eating foods high in magnesium will also help. Omegas help lubricate joints. Eating real food, not processed.
Hope these help! If need more info, feel free to ask 🙂

I've been trying to get her to take magnesium for years! I told her it helps me to not have any knee pain. Her eating habits aren't the best and she knows it. Thanks for the tips!

How's your friend doing?

Another suggestion I'd recommend is using a foam roller. This article might be helpful: Foam Roller Exercises for Back Pain

She's doing a little better, thanks for asking! I think she got some rest and that helped ease the tension in her body. I'll pass on the info about the foam roller! Thanks!

My girlfriend has it. I honestly wish I had the ability to sample the pain that people declare that they have so that I can better understand how they feel.
