search engine optimization

Optimizing your forum isn't really going to help that much. I'm guessing your forum is the linked signature? I can't access it so I can't view your forum but going from the link address, you are using a .co.cc domain, which should be a TLD such as a .co.uk, .net or a .com domain to begin with.

Then you have the problem with forums using dynamic URL's (I believe Invision and Jelsoft are fixing this at the moment), which is not search engine friendly.

now I move onto my last point which is there is no real point of search engine optimization, why? Well most of the traffic your forum will receive is from:
- direct (bookmarks etc.)
- referring sites (Forum Promotion, Forum Advertiser etc.)
- word of mouth
You will only receive a small percentage of traffic from SE's, due to the high amount of forums already established before your own and forum keywords are generally quite hard to rank for. then you have the problem of not many 'forumers' go into Google and type 'General Forum' or 'Gaming Forum' because most of the results are dead sites, irrelevant results or not what they are looking for, your forum might be on the next page.

So in my opinion, you should focus on getting links to your forum and advertising round, also focus on your already established community.

Traygon, most of what you said is completely false.

Dynamic URLs are indeed good for search engines, just as static URLs are. Neither are preferred by search engines (at least for the big-names such as Google and Yahoo). It's a false belief that search engines prefer static URLs. In fact, it's only people that prefer them, as they look nice to the eyes.

no real point of search engine optimization
This is possibly the worst thing to believe. SEO is one of the most important factors of a website, right after content and design. Search engine traffic can increase your visitors by a large amount. It is also said that most websites and forums receive 70% of their traffic from search engines.

You will only receive a small percentage of traffic from SE's, due to the high amount of forums already established before your own and forum keywords are generally quite hard to rank for.
Incorrect. Websites that have been around longer do indeed have a better chance of being on the first pages of a search engine, but that does not mean a new website cannot get to the top. It does take time, but if you work hard enough, you will be able to do this by having good keywords, and lots of backlinks. Dead sites are pushed down in search engines, because no content is being created; thus, a newer website with content being constantly created and updated will have a much higher chance of being ranked better.

then you have the problem of not many 'forumers' go into Google and type 'General Forum' or 'Gaming Forum'
This is true, but not for the reason of finding dead sites. People normally search for specific words such as "WoW forums" instead of "gaming forums." Ultimately, if you have good keywords, you'll be ranked better in search engines, and in turn, seen more.

Most of this can be found by reading Google Webmaster and other webmaster sites.

Follow these steps:

1. Search for a site similar like yours on google, check their keywords, and create unique ones that other ones dont have.

2. Submit to web directories

3. Submit to search engines

4. Post on blogs as comments

5. Advertise it on a forum in signature place, and banner space.
