How to put it for my community, it's crap and aren't out there regarding SEO. Aren't paid options better or worse? Or rather do it yourself.

What's your tricks and experience, does it help on getting traffic

I think 'do it yourself' is the best that you can do if you have the time. Otherwise paying for a good SEO is always beneficial, but with good and white hat strategies.
