Hello all.
I am currently in the early stages of starting a forum.
I am wondering how much second hand Vbulletin/Xenforo licences go for?
Or am I better of just buying a new one from them directly.
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, it will be anywhere in the region of $80-$100. I don't use either piece of software, but good luck with finding a deal.

I have bought ALL of my used VBulletin licenses and such there! They are legit, and perfect for used licenses! 🙂

A VB4 license runs for 64.95! The cheapest Ive found!

Enjoy!
Thanks for the link but they are all sold out....

Ok thanks very much! Do you own the site?
Would Vb 3 be any good for a start?

I dont own the site! no 🙂 But Ive gotten all my licenses there!

I wouldnt recommend vb3 No, Because it is outta date, and alot of the mods for it arent available and almost all the skins for it arent being made 🙂

But its up to you 🙂

A word of warning, it's not a good idea to start a new forum with paid software, you don't know how successful it will be, I am speaking from experience here.
The best and easiest way to go is find out what converters there for Xenforo from free source forum software, then go for one of those, then when you have a worthwhile thriving community members will donate and help you purchase your VB or Xenforo licence.

Also be wary of buying nulled versions, they work, but support will be hard to get from official forums.

I have a Vbulletin 4 forum licence for sale. this also lets you download and used VB 3 aswell. pm me for more info

Ok thanks for the advice!
I am now thinking about starting with phpBB. But for the genre of the forum I would probably need a custom theme. What price do custom themes retail at?
I don't want to pay for a custom theme and then move to a different forum software. Are there any major benefits of using a paid software rather than a free one?
I don't know when to start the forum as the full game is not being released till 2015! But a prequel is going to be released in 2013 to set the stage for the full game. So I was thinking about starting up very soon.
Any advice would be great. Thank you

I can put you in touch with someone who can design a fully working theme for you, price is something you would have to discuss with them, all I can say is that they are very very good.
It's quite easy to get an off the peg theme and do some customisation yourself, again, jumping into a paid for theme can be a waste of time if things don't work out as planned.
If you are not that good with code, and adding MODs, you should maybe take a look at MyBB, as it is a lot easier than phpBB3 to actually customise, support for it on here is good, on the official site believe it or not; it can be a bit hit and miss.
