Okay, I don't know if this is in the right thing or not, but I'm tired of moving from one hosting site to another and having my forum be deleted for inactivity. What information can you guys give me about hosting my own forum so I can go on anytime I want (especially if I have to be away for long periods of time). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
well, if so they don't cost to much. Very little for a basic package. However, its not worth buying if you are not going to be dedicated to your forum. Think about it.
I would still continue to be dedicated to it, or try to be dedicated to it. It's just that if I had to be on emergency leave or something along that line, I just wouldn't be able to be on all the time. However, thankfully I am on a site that does do backups, so if I do decide to move to a more dedicated server, or make my own, which ever comes first, I'd have a backup right in my files.
as long as you are fine with spending you money on this. Then go right ahead. I am just saying before you used a host provided you should think about if you are ready to run a site.
Well I provide shared cpanel hosting to a few people here and other forums, if you'd like you could send me a PM to get the feel of it, it'll be better than if you keep creating new forums on some free forum sites that don't last -😉-
If you have an old machine in your house doing nothing, a good Internet connection that is always turned on and if your ISP allows it, you can set up a server on that machine with say Ubuntu Server Edition. Really easy to set up, gives you full control over all aspects of your server, add new hardware to increase capabilities etc. and best of all, the software is mostly (if not all) free.
Well, I was on 000webhost.com for five months. There was a few porblems and my site was down like 10-20 min a day but guess what, its totally free and there wer no ads- none
