I have seen a few forums close their doors and be put up for sale. What are your thoughts on this?

I personally would never buy a forum because I would like the joy of making my own.

Also, when do you as an owner decide to sell up and move on?

I sold one of my general forum after the members lost interest. I regret that decision till now. Nowadays i either close it directly or just run without doing anything.

Yeah, seen it many times in my life lol.

I was an mod for an gaming website, and I left about a year before I seen it up for sale. It didn't got sold

I would never sell my current forum simply because of of how much time, effort, and other resources myself and co-partner have put into it. If I really didn't have the time for it or some other extenuating circumstances came up, I would either pass it on to a very trusted staff member or close the forum for the time being until it could be reestablished.

As far as buying, if someone was selling a forum that closely aligned with my forums niche and member base, was well established/respected, for a good price, I might consider purchasing it to merge into my own forum. I wouldn't buy any forum just because, i.e a general forum, as that does not help my own since it is in no way related.

I would if I didn't have enough time for it. Because you have to admit it if you are struggling, because it would be better to put it into someone's hands with a lot of time instead of you with no time. I could also sell it if the right offer came along and got offered quite a lot of money. If I did sell it, I would always make sure the person who is buying can be trusted and reliable.

Selling: Nope, not my website. I always wanted to build and run my own ever since I became an staff on an older website that is no longer running. If I was to get rid of it then I put an high price but other then that nope. I do have staff that they can take over if I have to be away for long time but for them to take ownership? maybe. one of them might but I know him for 2 years and I will know his answer.

Buying: If there was an website that I like and see something in it then I will consider it like an monkey. But end of the day it comes down to me on the cost of the server and whatnot. Then it's time! I have not much time to run another website. Unless I merge it into my community
