Selling Forums

So what does everyone think of people who sell their sites and forums?

Well, if you like the forum then you buy it. Otherwise you don't worry about it. 🙂

I wouldn't sell my forums because I'm not in it for the money and I personally would feel like a sell out who abandoned something I created just for some money.

A forum is like your child. Its born, you watch it grow and mature. You don't abandon and sell your child do you?

I guess that makes the alternative (closing the forum) sound like you are killing your child.. But we dont have to look at it that way.

Forums usually go on a downward spiral and fail after a new person takes over. Why put your community through that?
Granted, sometimes that doesn't happen..

I think thats selfish...if a forum is like your child, then why not adopt it instead of killing it when you have had enough being a parent?

I disagree with that, a forum is not like your child, it's something people to do for fun, spend some time on it, and just use it to communicate with other people who enjoy what ever the forum topic is made on.

Meh, if people think you are a sell out who really cares, it's better selling it when you no longer want it than letting it die and upsetting the members you may have, when selling it it's still there for them to post on, just that you are not staff anymore, so many people buy and sell sites, it's nothing new, and it's their job.

Just my thoughts on this matter, but the main thing to realize is a forum is not like a child at all, it's just something people do for fun.

Oh i agree..who cares. Though it doesn't look very nice for members to read you don't really give a crap about them or their opinions.

My opinion is that if i had the choice, i would like to see what i created grow.But i can understand and sympathise with your view.

I do think it comes down to personal preferences.
And is at the end of the day up to the owner to decide the fate.

So your telling me if you didn't want to run your forum/site anymore you'd rely on your member's opinions to tell you what to do? Wow...

If you want to sell your forum then so be it, you shouldn't rely on others to hold you there, it doesn't mean your selfish or you don't care for your members/your forum it just means you've had enough and I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

Not at all Nathan. I am merely stating that it was not very nice to see someone say they did not care.


I said if you see the forum as a "child" then that is selfish to give it up when you decide you have had enough of being a parent.
