I think it depends on how popular the forum is and how much of a emotional attachment people have with the forum and its community and staff.

I would buy a reasonabally priced "Forumpromotion.net" t-shirt or coffee cup since I like this forum and I visit this place everyday.

But, I got a feeling if I wear a T-shirt with "Forumpromotions.net", I will get strange looks by the local teenagers and narrow minded people for wearing something which is not very popular in the non-forum community. I also might run into a fellow Forumpromotion.net member. lol

It depends on the community. I know another forum I am on is giving out free t-shirts with their logo and URL on it. The difference is the genre. There will be more programmers and web developers than forum owners, so its an advertising ploy, but one which will be successful as predicted by the owner. (FYI, 380 000 members)

This would require me giving the owner my home address. How do I know they wont ship me a bomb or a shirt laced with anthrax?

Unless it was done through an outside organization.. Like if they had them available on walmart.com or something.

Either way I would not wear a shirt regarding anything on the internet. Not really my style. I keep my real life and internet life separate. 😀

You can always rent a Postal Box at the local post office or just use your friends, or family members address.

I probably buy a shirt from my favourite bands or musicians even if they have a link on it to their forum, website, or blog.

I don't really have a problem leting people know I enjoy certain websites.

People buy Youtube, Google, Ubuntu and Firefox branded clothing all the time.

But, I can see your point. If I wear a shirt which said phpBB.com, I probably be picked on by the local bully or kids with nothing better to do.

It also be a good way to find people who share the same interests in phpBB forums.

If you worked with PHP and you go to some IT company, wearing a phpbb.com shirt would fit in. So it really depends where you wear it.

I sell t-shirts on my website, And people are buying. Like dotDavid say's it matters on the crowd.

Re: Selling real goods like t-shirts on forums, would it wor

I agree it depends on the crowd and the age group of most of your members since when I was in High school every one almost wore the same brands of clothing and people who wear trench coats, and dress like a vampire get stereotype as weird which is sad.

I think it will be somewhat easier selling website branded clothing to adults since a larger amount of adults are not affected by trying to "Fit-in" or "peer pressure" vs. teens.

But, I could be wrong since I don't hang out with many people in their 30s+.

Yeah, I mean if you let's say created a sick t-shirt that teen's enjoyed well than bam your instant success. A teen doesn't really care about what it say's as long as it "looks" cool. That is what I have seen.

I agree teens tend to buy stuff which look cool and care less about what it says or means. Look at the amount of young people who wear Chev Guevara T-shirts. Not realizing Chev believed in Communism and the Cuban Revolution. He also killed people : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara

or Walmart selling Nazi T-shirts: http://consumerist.com/2006/11/walmarts ... trast.html

Obviously both T-shirts are popular or stores won't be selling them.

Although, in some schools there are popular teens which a large percentage of the class follows, so if a bunch of very popular teens wear your shirt then you would have a lot of sales.

I saw a Girl on Youtube who designed T-shirts, and female clothing and she has about 100,000+ subscribers now she making a lot from her clothing sales and Youtube Partners adsense account.

But, she started out building her Youtube subscribber list, twitter follower population, and Facebook Group follower before she started making T-shirts, Skirts, and other items.

I think it would be easier to sell stuff online once you made enough online sales.

For example, I buy web hosting from a online friend I met on another forum and I know how well his webhosting is because I tried his free web hosting and I know he is more tech savvy when it comes to webhosting then most people I know.
