Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

When you start a website, do you eventually plan to sell it? Or does it depend on how successful (or unsuccessful) the site is? Also, at what point do you decide whether or not you'd like to get rid of your site?

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

If I am given a nice offer, I will probably sell. I usually make things that are useful to me, CSSGradients for example. Which I recently sold because I was offered the equivalent of 20 months earnings.

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I have never sold a site and probably never will. I certainly won't sell my current sites. They're not for sale. 😉

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I wouldn't want to sell this site unless I really have to. 😀

I wouldn't want to sell my sites.

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I constantly put my all into my forum; it keeps me up at night when there are even the smallest of issues, and I'm always trying to build it up into something greater.

I couldn't put a price on what it means to me.

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I wouldn't consider selling any of my core websites unless I got an unbelievable offer. 😛 At the prices websites usually go at, it's just a really bad deal, you know what I mean? You don't get anywhere near the value you put in.

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I have never sold any forum or site. I doubt I ever will. 🙂

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

Nope. I have never sold my communities. I make them hoping I can interact with great people that share something in common with me. I have felt like I had an internet home in some communities from the past and I really hope someday I can be making someone feeling that way about my community. 🙂

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

Perhaps it is easier to sell websites and blogs which do not really have community like forums do. I find it hard to sell forums I created since it would have meant that I became part of the community and became friends with the member. That I would do my best for the community to strive. When I simply couldn't manage it anymore, I'd give it up to a part of the community who could do better than me. Or let it close down by itself.

I don't need money since I do this all for fun. 😀

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I've considered it actually. It's really hard to run a forum. I had a yuku board for a while and only invited friends but recently I decided to upgrade and actually host independently. I publicized my site on a few forums and the drama that some people bring is just stupid and I have started cleaning the site up a lot because I had complaints from family and friends who didn't even want to be there anymore because they couldn't understand what people were talking about and they were really turned off by the drama. I have had someone who has asked to buy the site from me or at least become a partner and I almost considered selling and starting fresh with a new domain and being more selective about where I publicized but I really love my theme that is tied into my domain name so I think it's better to just clean house a bit. I really can't imagine letting go of the lemon.

I never really thought about this, but it's true. You often end up putting hundreds of hours into a site, and if you can get up to a $1000 dollars (which is a pretty good price), that's still barely a few bucks an hour.

I'm really glad that a lot of you value your members so much, it's a great thing to see. 🙂

Re: Do you eventually plan to sell your sites?

I would sell my site if its successful and feel that I cant handle working (retirement).

What do you think about selling your website, blog or forum? Would you do it? I think I would depending on the time and offer I get. I would never officially put a website up for sale but I would be open to offers. I know some people set it up and sell it ASAP. Some people don't sell, they just let their website rot out. Who are you?

I've turned down multiple offers of interest for holderhost LTD. I've sold websites in the past but I've learned that sticking at something is the best path to success. 🙂 I'd sell if the time was right and the website was prepared to be sold.

When you say "prepared to be sold" what do you mean? What is the difference from the state that your website is in right now?

Idk. I've had a few offers to buy my forum and honestly there were times where I wanted to give up.

But I am not in the forum world for money, hence why I don't run ads on my site and it is ran at a loss for me. I do it because I want to and I don't think I could ever, at least at this time, truly sell my site.

I mean granted if I stopped caring about it or I was unable to do a good enough job, I'd consider it then. I hate seeing forums that were huge and had a valuable wealth info just literally turning to poo and spam.

If you're in a website for money and if you're in it for the passion. For me, websites and communities were always a passion, so I would have to think very hard before considering to sell them. Now, if my heart were no longer in the community, it would be about time to pass the community on or find a new owner.

I really think it just depends on what the community means to you and if you're in it for profit or to create a long-lasting established community.

I have merged these two topics together as they are very similar to each other. 🙂
