Do you send out newsletters on your forum, site or blog, to your userbase? If so, how frequently do you do so? And how many is too much to send out in a month?

No, I do not send out newsletters for the forums and the reason is because I don't personally read those things and opt out as soon as I sign up on a forum so I don't send them out myself. From past experience of sending out emails, hardly anyone on the sites have opted in and if they have, they either use an email that's not their main one, it goes into spam anyway, or they see they have an email and don't read it. It's too time consuming to do all that work of writing and not gain any benefit from it. Other genres might have different experiences.

This.

I also typically report those emails as spam.

I don’t send newsletters from my forums, but do rely on my newsletter as the source of most of my marketing. It’s a list of customers who have bought or signed up to something and I generally only send emails 1-2 times a month when a new product or update is ready.

I’m in the process of getting this setup for my community, but I just need to get way more content written to where it even makes sense to send these out.

I don't do a newsletter but I do a mass email at certain intervals like the one year mark. Nothing grandiose in there other than thanking members for contributing.
