My father's 65th birthday is today, and he just hit the age where most places that have senior discounts, will now officially give him a senior discount for his age.

At what age do you think getting a senior discount should become available? Where we lived in Nevada, the various restaurants would offer it, starting at the age of 55, while most other places I have seen, would officially give it at 65. Personally, I think 60 should be the start of senior discounts.

I'm still trying to figure out if I got my first senior citizen discount! I had an oil change at a dealership and I told him I had a coupon and he told me to bring it in, but the cost might be lower. Well, it turned out to be MUCH lower. I have no idea why and I didn't ask LOL I'm 56 but don't look it, although they could have my age in their computer system, or it could just be that I've been there a few times and I'm a preferred customer now? No clue really.

To answer the question, I don't mind getting discounts because the cost of living keeps going up, so take advantage of any discount you can. Swallow the pride, right.

60 could be a good compromise. & hope he had a great birthday 🙂

I'm not even 50 yet (getting there though lol) & I agree with you, I would swallow the pride. If they want to offer discounts once we get old(er), all the better!

In New Zealand politicians always debate this. Currently the pension age is 65 but a lot of 65s are just starting new careers. People die a lot later in life now that there are new inventions in medical stuff.

Getting a seniors discount should be from 50 years old. I don't see anything bad with getting it at that age. At 50, one has crossed the official youthful age and is already a senior.

Every country is different however for UK seniors gets the worse ;( You have to be the age of 68 to able approved, shocking g and not like they even get much. With the cost of living they only got £4 extra this month. Get this. 10% rise and yet stores put their food up by 20%.

There are seniors discounts however it's not that much, and not many places do them. and at times paying cash in hand is always the best option as you then do not pay VAT and they do not have to book it. VAT in the UK is HIGH. 20% it is - and so if you payed £3000 it's almost £400 just in VAT

In my country, you are subjected to the price level that everyone is operating in. There is nothing like prefeential treatment for elderly people.
