Finally, guest posting and backlinks from high-quality directories and social bookmarking websites won't hurt anything

Of course, on top of these things, one would need a lot of quality material, though it seems like I've seen websites with a huge social media presence, but with little content on the actual website. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Web 2.0 backlinks work the best to build your keyword ranking. Social networks help to drive traffic and build your website presence in search engines. Finally forums are not very much helpful to build backlinks or traffic. They are mostly used for advertising.

Guest posting, yes. Backlinks from directories aren't relevant anymore. Social media signals are more important. Links from related sites, blogs, and websites are the best advantages. If you're not active on social media, then you'll have a tough time performing well on search. Web 2.0 websites aren't 100% important because you'll need to get links from sites in your industry that are more popular than yours.
