I'm not claiming to be an SEO expert, in fact far from it, but the whole SEO thing does interest me, so over the past six or seven months I've been reading everything I can about SEO, to try and find out the truth.

Truth you ask ?
Well yes because there is so much advice out there, about Google, Panda and Penguin, that if you tried to take all the advice you read, you would end up doing nothing at all it is all so contradictory.

Lets take just one example, I myself have said "content is king" along with "Do not plagiarise" because Google will take revenge on you.

Well go to Google and Google Congealed Snake Oil, I know but I did it, now look at the top three hits, look at some articles, all of them are plagiarised from each other, so how does that work, a site full of plagiarised material top in organic searches.

What can you assume from this?
That Google tells lies ? and all this about updates is just a cloak ?

Think of another thing, if Google had so many "experts" wouldn't you find the odd one or two on a forum selling their knowledge.

If you have doubts about what I say, then go onto the Google forum and ask a question, then you will see that even those so called experts will give you contradictory answers.

It's time to make your mind, but my feeling is, that concentrating on keeping Google "happy" can do more harm than good.

I'm going to continue looking into SEO, I'll keep you up to date with my findings

The most important factor in the success of a website is keeping your members / visitors / users / customers happy. Give them benefits that they value and do it better than your competition. If you can do that you won't need to focus as much on 'keeping Google "happy"'.

I agree with Fergal but I also think keeping Google happy is another thing you should focus on.

You have to understand Sapper, no system is perfect and a handful of bad websites will slip through the net. If you are completely whitehat then you shouldn't have a problem with Google but when you start dabbling in building lots of backlinks and blackhat methods there is a very thin line that is easy to cross.

I doubt Google employees would sell any knowledge about google secrets, For one Google treats it's employees VERY VERY well and for two if someone did that and Google found out then they would be sacked and Google would most likely file for damages - Which would be a few hundred million most likely.

The results that Google gives me put 7 pages from my site http://www.congealedsnakeoil.co.cc in the top 7 spots of serps for the query "congealed snake oil".

It rather proves my point, when I told people that I didn't believe in the "duplicate content penalty" being a cause of a site being banished from serps, and that I was going to test it. (Test things... how cynical can one be? )

But watch that site! I don't really believe the other story that Google will punish a site with spam inbound links by throwing it out of serps. A friend is just about to bombard the site with Scrapebox spam links. If the site disappears, I will have been proved wrong (again)!

How much plagiarism that google will actually penalize a site?
saw some site copied contents/articles but also modify it a bit making it their own which has about 30% original lines and the rest are unchanged.

Yes, the most important thing is to keep our customers etc happy, but first of all we need to get those customers and one of the most effective methods of customer acquisition that I know of is through search engines like Google. So, keeping Google happy is also important.

That hasn't held true for all its places in the U.S...forget about the world... :shake:

I'm sure Google prioritizes important topics instead of focusing on catching out plagiarism with sites about snake oil.
