I'm starting now to understand SEO. However, I'm curious on a few things. Out of curiosity, how important is SEO for newly established forums, say that are under 10,000 posts? Will SEO really affect traffic? What are the most important aspects for the admin to focus on to improve SEO?

In my opinion, SEO is useful and very important for all forums. New or old. I have read many articles and I have seen many opinions here but also in many other sites. If you focus on SEO, you will increase the traffic of your forum. 🙂

Yes, you can work on SEO more to get organic traffic and to increase SERP rate. So, no of posts doesn't matter, start promoting your site through White-hat SEO methods.

I agree with RH-Calvin. Start promoting your website with white hat methods and you can go far even as a new forum. If though you start out with spamming links etc then it will most likely be Sandboxed

Interesting comments. Thanks both!

1. Avoid Spamming
2. Avoid duplicate content
3. Title and meta optimization
4. Avoid ads.
5. Proper moderation.

I too feel that SEO is very important no matter how new or old the forum is. Doing a good job with SEO on a new forum will just help it along becoming more and more successful.

Apart from promotion, content/activeness of any forum matter a lot, the more content is created within your forum the higher ranking it would be getting.

The Talking Seed had great SEO, and I had allot of members from it. It also had under 10,000 post, so yeah it helps. 😛

Just focus on quality content for your forum, ensuring you get as many new members and posts daily. Tweak other hidden factors such as meta tags/description, etc. You can always get a few quality backlinks from related forums if you want and that will help Google find your new site/posts.

I agree, promote your site through SEO and you will see an increase of traffic to your forum regardless of post size
