I want to set up an Intranet to put a forum on. But I have some questions about what i'd need and how some of it works.

This is what I believe I'd need:

A server machine (this would probably just be a tower pc)
Windows 7
Internet Information Services (IIS)
vBulletin Forum
Relevant cables

Now the server machine generally wouldn't be connected to the internet at all, but the other machines connecting to the server may have internet access. Does that create a problem?

I've looked up guides about setting up a web server on a PC, guiding through the IIS installation process. Now I see people mention about needing a DNS Server. Would I need this for an Intranet and how/where do I get it?

I also see people talking about going on to the other PCs, going in to the Network Connections, right clicking the Local Area Connection, choosing TCP/IP and entering a Preferred DNS server address? Does this need to be done, if so where do I get the address? and would it have any affect on the PC accessing the internet as normal?

I know that's lots of questions, but I need to get it straight in my head before I jump in to it. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you mean you want to host a site, I would suggest using XAMPP and hosting your forum and port forwarding the IP address of the site to a domain you can use many provider such as DynDNS.

Please PM if you want to know more information.
