Ever want to test styles/mods without worrying about hosting and FTP? Well now you can. I will help you get your local host up and running to run phpBB3 on your computer.

To start, download WAMP 2.0 - Install it. It should work on most platforms of Windows.

After installing it, make sure all services are on and the server is ONLINE.

Now, move phpBB3 (unzipped) to C:\wamp\www | Once done, go to your DEFAULT browser and type in localhost and press enter. It should take you to this page:

(Minues the wordpress under my projects, it should say phpBB3 if you did the following steps right.)

Click on phpBB3 and install. Note you must add a database using phpmyadmin and user. (http://www.knowledgesutra.com/forums/to ... hpmyadmin/ should help. I don't know exactly what you run to add a user in phpmyadmin, however the link is on my home computer and will update my post when I get home)

It should be done!

Written all by me. Any problems or questions, let me know! 😀

Did you make this because i asked you about it the other night?

Anyways thanks! Question: How do i set all services on and set the server online?

I have no experience with Wamp.

I figured out how to do it, so sorta xP

Left click on the little clock icon WAMP puts in the task bar, and choose "Start all Services" and make sure it is online. It would say "Put Offline" if your online so you know

oh ok, i suppose this would work just fine for other forum softwares too right? And could i get multiple softwares at once?

VertrigoServ is good also.
I've used it for years 😉
Oh thats cool, it is better to trust things that have been around for a while though, which is why I use WAMP

Vertrigo is an old program also. It's made my 1 guy and it's totally free and easy to use.

Testing styles and mods: that's exactly what I use this for. 🙂

I use Xampp but it's the same thing as WAMP 2.0.

I have switched to EasyPHP from WAMP. Much faster, and less resource intensive.
I'm going to have to try that out. I've been having to upload everything to my server using Dreamweaver, and it definitely takes up a lot of time. This'll be great. 🙂
