Since you asked for a not too short review, I will split this up into two categories, & hopefully cover most things 🙂
- Colour Scheme
The blue colour scheme is nice & simple. Nothing too bright or dark, a nice neutral tone which is appealing to see 🙂. Also nice to see no overpowering graphics or other images either, they all work well with the style. However, you have a long site, so if it is possible to have a longer background gradient that may look nicer as it just suddenly stops and you are left with a large amount of white on either side of your site.
- Layout/Content
The overall layout appears to be good. It is set out in a non-confusing way, where members should be able to find what they are looking for. Straight away, there is nothing which tells me automatically what your site is about. However going by your site name, and reading the boards you have I would guess that it is just about sharing some of the experiences you have had, maybe even just a board for discussing different opinions and experiences? You could possibly want to look into having some sort of welcome message which tells any prospect member what type of site exactly they are looking at. I did see you had the Info tab, which is coming soon though, which is also a good idea.
One thing, I had a look at your user guidelines, and I honestly am sorry (and it is late here -11.22pm), but I got bored reading them. I know they are necessary, but your user guidelines do seem to be very long to me.
Another thing I noticed, which I personally don't really like, is the way your global announcements, announcements, stickies, & topics are all split up. Yes it's good to have the important threads highlighted, but is really necessary to split them up that much? Just the different image tells me the difference between the stickies & the normal topics.
