For those of you trying to make money with your forum, how do you feel about implementing a program to profit share with members who invest in the forum?

Investing could be tied down to activity criteria.

Do you think this could make a forum more active?

Be amazing that I was able to make a good profit from my forum, but at the end of the day I do not see that and it's a hobby more than a making engine. Have bitcoin and invest shares and hold them and earn over the coming years. But at the moment the shares are not good ;(

If people feel they're a part of a group and their contributions matter, including them on profits will only help build that community so that would be something I would love to do. It's just that my community doesn't make money 🙁

I kind of do this via giveaways, using the money earned from the ad revenue. As far as possibly having a point shop to convert into a gift card, I only have ads enabled for guests (so that would be a loss leader unless it made sense content wise to raise in the ranks of PR and DR).

I have never run a forum in partnership. If your partner has invested real money to build the community, you should start sharing profits as soon as the site starts generating profits.

I have not ever seen that happen for a long time now with an Fourm

I have seen some forum owners offer profit sharing for the moderator's position. I have been offered a moderator's position on the condition that I will have a share of the profits once the forum starts earning. However, I never found these offers lucrative.

When a member of the forum knows they have something to gain, then profit sharing could be a motivating factor to stay active.

It is a good idea, there are many people interested in posting with some benefit.

I know a couple of forums where members could actively earn from activities on the forum.

This is also really effective in peaking the interest of members and making them really active contributors, it sounds good to anyone as it is often really fascinating to be able to earn from doing something you really enjoy doing for leisure.

This will do nothing but cause spam, a few years back some people were running "paid to post" forums and they grew fast but the content was mostly useless.

I think it could be done but would take a strategy and tinkering.

I would treat like social media does. You can't enter the "partnership program" until you meet a certain criteria. Then while they are trying to meet that criteria, you can determine if they will be real or just spamming to get there.

Agreed! Content on Paid to Post forums is mostly useless. But in terms of revenue generation and member base, these forums are doing really well.

The users sometimes copy your answer and repost it with removing some words and I have faced this on trendri when a user just copy my answer and removes one word for the reward count.

Sharing with staff is a logical move and will likely have more benefits than cons. However, sharing with the members is a pretty tall hurdle to get over. Not that it would be a bad thing, but it would be a nightmare to just send everyone $5 as once you have that kind of income, you are looking at hundreds if not thousands of members.

It would be wise to invest that money back into the community instead of cash. Upgrades to the site, give-a-ways, contests with prizes, etc.

I'd never actually considered a member staff scheme, which I'd imagine would work in a similar fashion to people buying stocks/shares in large FTSE companies. I have profit-shared with staff (normally co-owners or admins) who have contributed either financially or contra to the site.
