Should all forums be age restricted ?

I am against the idea because there mature 13 or 14 year old out there and I have meet some people that are round 22 years old yet they are immature.

I couldn't care less. I love little kids, and I wouldn't mind having them on my forum. The only worry I would have is that some content may not be suitable for them.

If we had an age restriction we could post more things but then again we don't want to become a rant or porn forum.

I don't think there should be age restrictions (so long as the content is proper for their eyes), more that things should be closely watched is all.

It doesn't matter if there are age restrictions or not. People simply ignore them.

^ This pretty much sums up my experience, and thoughts on the subject.

Honestly I've been foruming since I was 10 or 11. Age restrictions are not very fair, it depends on the maturity of the individual person, no a simple number. Not everyone is the same, and neither is their maturity level, so how can you get rid of someone just because of an age that does not suit their body and mind?
I also agree with Snobo, I love little kids. Also, their posts seem to have more...personality and vibe in them which to me makes it more of a community, since for example would you want to have a general discussions forum with same old - same old posts made by 15 year olds, or interesting, really out there posts made by a 12 year old?
Furthermore, being on a forum can be beneficial to the kid. Using forums 'specially can improve their grammar, spelling, and how they think. I know it made me grow up and....open my eyes to what is really out there. If I haden't started foruming when I had I probably would be doing much worse in school spelling/grammar/writing/thought/idea wise, I would be sheltered and not know what was happening to the real world, and I wouldn't have meet people who are different than me who made me realize different cultures and life styles are good and respectable.
I am and always have been completely against the age restrictions.

Age has nothing to do with maturity and no age restrictions are going to work simply because there is no way to prove anything anyways. People get around COPPA all the time so what makes any other age restriction any more effective?

I'm only 11 and I'm on very mature. I hate Forums that restrict my age lvl. Especially when people request exchanges with me and I can't join there Forum because of my age. I'm tired of lying about my age. I wish everyone would accept an 11 year old on the internet.

I always thought that ''QFT'' or ''this'' sounded a nooby, but you get the message...

You think little kids are the worst? Try the really annoying grownups that have done more damage over time to my board. They are the worst. With little kids they're usually easy to pick out if they make problems and easier to get rid of. Especially since if you have COPPA installed you can contact mommy and daddy and tell them to get their kid off your board XD

Age limits are completely and utterly useless and a waste of time altogether because 99% of people confronted with these limits just put in a fake age. Also I think that Forums are a valuable learning and social experience for kids and should not be limited by age. Even though it's just a petty annoyance of having to press the back button and change your age, still.

I never put age restriction in my forums... ever. They're useless. People would end up lying about their ages. Plus, i seen mature 11 year olds before.

Im against this idea

To be honest, I think it depends on the subject matter as to what the age restrictions should be. And besides, if a kid wants to get on a forum, they normally just lie. COPPA doesn't work.
