Should I go for forum category icons?

Should we replace our current 'old' and 'new' system with forum icons?

What do you think guys? I like the idea of forum icons not showing lack of activity, but the it's not as obvious when there is a new post in that forum.

Also, can anyone recommend a good icon site for icons that would sit well with our theme please?

I like the idea of using icon, it make the colour look abit more colourful, you could probably find some icons here
 
I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but we use speech bubbles for our New/Old icons. If the speech bubble is yellow, then that means that new posts have been made. If it's blue, then no new posts have been made. Pretty self-explanatory, really. And then of course if it's a popular topic, and there are new posts, it'll show up yellow and have the word "hot" inside of it to show you that not only are there new posts, but that the topic in question is a popular one, or a one that gets the most replies too. Not sure where we found those or if someone made them for us. For an example you can check out http://www.chattingtime.com I hope that's what you have in mind.
 
Forum icons are pretty nice. It is a great customization. When using them use gif images because the background is transparent.
 
Make sure the images are less in size. Because it shouldn't affect your forum loading time much.
