Hey guys,

should I make my forum bizdustry.com a private community where you have to log in to view the forum free of course?

Thanks
Steven

There are benefits about it and then there is the other side of it. Like, if you can't see anything then to see the forums/topics/posts they have to join to see it. So away to get members list growing, yet once they join and see what they need to see they might not log in again.

You will get people that won't join the site until they know what the site is and what the site got to offer.

yeah I agree.

However they go to read it and then they never come back... nor did they even sign up.
Do you think it’ll mess up what I’ve started so far if I change it to private community?

causing the need to log in in order to view content really hurts your SEO.

Usually, if I see a forum that requires you to sign up turns me away immediately. How does the user truly know if they want to sign up? It's better to have contact information of users who genuinely wanted to join versus thousands of users who never cared.

If I go to a new forum and it requires you to sign in to view anything on it, I immediately close the page and never return.

No to worry about the SEO, because as long as the homepage landing page is great and SEO perfect. I dont have to much to worry about.

The main concern is will be people be to scared to join or not want to join because its private?

Someone had a private forum on here, cant remember who it was... I was going to ask them hows it going for them being private... if anyone can remember send me his name?

If I can't see the forum, I'm going to assume that the forum owners are hiding something. Toxicity? Low activity? Staff dominated forums? It's not a fear. It's more that I find my time valuable and don't want to waste my time signing up just to be disappointed with what I see. That's just my view though so others may have different opinions on private forums.
