Upon recent events Ive came upon a conflict with me and my browser..Opera. I love its features, including Intergrated Mail and Turbo, but as it Opera advances it seems to become a big resource hog and that is one thing I dont Enjoy. Especially since I do most my browsing on a netbook.

My question is that "Will I get more out of Chrome than Opera?". Ive noticed from reports that Chrome is more resouce efficient. The thing is that I need more information on Chrome. Does it have themes? Does it have Plugins & Toolbar Support? Can I get intergrated Mail? I am aware that there will be a little pain during the switch, but I am ready!

So, can the FP community please provide me with some more information on chrome. This can include opinions, statistics, theme and plugin support. The main thing I need is support during the switch.

[This is a Chrome vs Opera thread. Not a Firefox. Thread.]

Chrome currently has over 300 plugins.

As for themes I do not know of any.

i do know with some of the plugins you can block ads, integrate gmail, integrate facebook, and get a flash blocker.

orc_dragoon, I currently am using Opera 10.1 Its great and is actually faster than most other browsers. I don't see it as a resource "hog" and I am using a laptop. If you haven't updated Opera versions, then that may be a reason.

If you choose Chrome, then you face everything you type for the last 7 years being logged in some government department. Chrome logs everything you type and thats why I stay away from it.

Strange. How much memory is your Opera (Ctrl+Alt+Del :: Task Manager :: Processes)?

Problems can also be caused by bad addon's and so on that are not coded that well and have a very negative effect on the browsers performance.

With 1 tab about 80mb. While one of my friends states that with 1 tab on chrome it consumes about 50 or so.

I have 6 tabs open and its at 200 Mb, so its definitely your computer.

I use google chrome and its does have themes you can choose from. Also the plugins are great.

Blaming it on ones comp doesnt help the situation. 200mb is also a lot for 6tabs mate.

Yet my computer performs perfectly, makes it hard to believe that its not your computer. 200Mb for 6 tabs is about 30Mb per tab, although it doesn't always work that way.

Can you suggest a reason as to why it takes up so much resources?

Oh good grief not another google spies on you...

People have misjudged what they meant ever since they freaking stated it.

If they really did like you believe alot of people would probably be in jail for downloading illegal software.
