My hosting and my domain are going to expire in few months and my forum hasn't performed well. My forum is based for Indians and only 70 members have joined in and 1 or 2 active. Do you guys think i should try running the forum for one more year to attract my country people or close it and move on 😕

I think you should try for another year. I have made mistakes in the past for giving up and absolutely regretted it. I think you should keep going and maybe try to add more aspects to the forum to try to gain more members.

Thanks MasterA for your kind thought, need more experts view 🙂

I think your forum is cool. Great theme. (of course it is, Electric Shock made it 😀)
Don't give up. Try to attract more people who'd be interested in your forum. Add cool stuff, like contests.

I've been down the same road. I've even had it happen where I was nearly banned from some promotion forums because I couldn't make up my mind as to whether to keep a forum open or close it. Don't fall into the same bad habit I once did.

Yes, definitely try for another year. Don't get discouraged. Forums take years to become popular.

I guess I'm going to kind of contradict what a few people said here. I don't think you should give up, but you should also not stay too devoted to one particular idea. If your forum isn't doing too well, don't be afraid to try a different idea, if you have one. If you want to create a successful forum, you have to find the right balance. You need to know when to give up on an idea, but you also need to stick to a good idea once you find it, and make it a success. I guess the best advice I have for you is this: make a forum which you can be interested in, and stick with it as long as you're having fun. If the forum becomes a chore, or you get tired of it, then start a new one with a new, fresh idea. Repeat until you find something that sticks. 🙂

I would have to agree with Cosmic here. In the words of the wise man named Albert Einstein "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results", don't be insane try something new. 😉

I know you want to cater to Indians specifically so what are your methods of advertising? Are you targeting communities that have a high number of Indian users? Have you considered advertising local as in Indian shops/restaurants? How about your personal family and friends do they know about your forum? Sometimes word of mouth is the best form of advertising.

I think you should definitely try another year, but use it to experiment. If you only try the same things, like others have said, then you'll most likely receive the same results.

I tried word of mouth adv, and asked few of my social networking friends, left comments on Indian blogs. Few turned up from that..

Thank you for the wonderful thought. I will try to re-furnish my forum so that it looks more interesting and attractive to my fellow Indians.

See what I've found is that advertising never stops. You can't expect to do advertising for a while get members and then just stop. As an administrator/owner it's really part of your job to keep reaching out and get the word out there about your website. Back when I used to actively run my creative arts forum it was HOT people were posting regularly it was the go to spot for artists and writers. Unfortunately I became complacent and stopped advertising because I was happy with the activity. Eventually it stopped and I have no one to blame but myself for letting it.

Yeah i understand Sharon, i have done the same thing. But nowadays i am back with more advertising 🙂

I'm going to go against the grain a bit and say that it's totally up to you. Just ask yourself if you're still enjoying running the forum. If the answer is yes, then you should keep going until it's no longer fun for you. If you aren't enjoying yourself, then maybe it's time to find something different that works better for you. If you aren't enjoying yourself or you don't believe in something, then it will be much harder or maybe even impossible to make it successful.

I am in a dilemma, but i will take a good decision soon. Thanks for replying with your opinion.

How have you advertised/ marketed your forum jazz? Maybe it just needs more exposure! You could always hold a competition or two to get things moving again.

Hope you don't give up though dude! Definitely continue it for another year, wish you all the best!

I'd say that if you feel like you want to continue trying your best to get your forum out there, then do it. 🙂 Part of the issue that I have seen with various forums that don't have many active members, is the issue with no one wanting to really create many new discussions.

If you do indeed decide to go for an another year, combine your advertising efforts with content creation. The more content you put up on a daily or weekly basis, the easier it is to gain members because of that.

One more month and i am thinking over it, thank you all for your thoughts on it.
