I have a Galaxy S4 through Verizon, but I am starting to dislike TouchWiz greatly. I have heard of CyanogenMod before and I have seen how it runs;however, I just don't know if I should install it on my phone
I know rooting voids all warranties tied with Verizon and more so with Samsung. However, is it worth it? Have any of you installed it? Do you like it?
You could try installing an alternative launcher from Google Play which won't void your warranty like Go Launcher, Smart Launcer, ADW, Nova Launcher, etc which are some pretty good launchers for Androids which offer alternative desktops/launcher.
I'm not sure about installing Cyanogenmod since having the Verizon version of Android may make it easier to update to the latest version of Android which is 4.4 when Verizon decides to push out an update for 4.4 to supported phones. 4.4 Android has speed improvements which may make TouchWiz faster.
I wouldn't risk it if you care about the warranty, without good knowledge of what you're doing you could easily mess something else, like my brother who bricked his.
I suggest what froggyboy said, try out some free launchers, I recommend Nova Launcher, it's fast, intuitive and has a lot of customisation options. Taking out the animations is a useful one because it makes it feel and look a lot faster, and technically, without the animations, it is.
Smart Launcher is worth checking out. It arranges Ions/shortcuts in a circular pattern, and Apps are categorize by type like chat, internet, games, utilities, and settings, so they are easier to find by category. There is also a search tool for finding apps by name.
Smart Launcher also uses only about 10MB of RAM unlike other launchers which uses 20-30MB.
Nova Launcher is the best alternative launcher for having a launcher similar to the regular Android 4.2 launcher, but with more features like different animation, and more home screens.
