Should Members Be Able To Edit/Delete Their Posts?

I think editing is essential for anyone, delete I'm not so sure about cause as said previously, people could just delete all of their posts to make the topic look odd and make it look as if someone was arguing with themselves etc..
I think that maybe, if a member has a certain amount of posts..... then it could be allowed as they would be a trusted member and wouldn't screw around with the power to delete their own responses. (Unless of course they manage to make like 500 posts in a day because they're a spammer).

I currently allow all my users to edit and delete their own posts, however I have been thinking of changing the delete settings.

I allow deleting and editing up to 72 hours on my forum. Sometimes someone could have a billion spelling errors, or just typed the message at 2:00 AM on a Saturday and had no idea what they were even trying to say. It happens.

Good thing about MyBB is that it puts up a notice on the post that someone has editted it so, I don't have such issues with edits where people change it to hide the original.

I generally allow users to edit posts but, not delete as I've already had someone before who abused the delete feature by deleting and posting hundreds of times in order to gain points via the points system that we had.

I would allow members to edit their posts, there's no question about that but delete is another thing. I would leave it to the moderators to deal with that as the member can report the post themselves. 🙂

We allow members to edit their posts for one hour, but not delete them.

Contributors have no restriction on post edits and are able to soft delete their posts or threads if they wish.

The reason we give Contributors such flexibility is because those who have a vested interest in the site are much less likely to be destructive.

Well it is their right, to edit and or take back what ever they said.

Whats if one of your members in heat of the moment say some thing but regret moments later? I think people should be able to take back what they said or remove it for their own ease of mind.

If you're asking me, they have an hour to cool off. Anything after that, they can report the post and ask for an edit.

Lol it was directed towards the topic.
But that sounds like long a process just to have make just to edit a post 😕

It has worked fine for us for over a year. 😉

I let both happen, just because i know we can probably compensate for it (deleting posts that is..) and editing post is of course allowed I mean, I've never been on a forum that doesn't allow this.. Not gonna say anything mean, so I'll just end there .. lol.

Never allow them to edit their post after few hours. Spammer user will just edit it and insert links.
