A majority of teachers aren't getting paid enough to support themselves, should the government pay them more? Why or why not?

The data is in: More teachers than usual exited the classroom after last school year, confirming longstanding fears that pandemic-era stresses would prompt an outflow of educators. That’s according to a Chalkbeat analysis of data from eight states – the most comprehensive accounting of recent teacher turnover to date.

In Washington state, more teachers left the classroom after last school year than at any point in the last three decades. Maryland and Louisiana saw more teachers depart than any time in the last decade. And North Carolina saw a particularly alarming trend of more teachers leaving mid-school year.

The turnover increases were not massive. But they were meaningful, and the churn could affect schools’ ability to help students make up for learning loss in the wake of the pandemic. This data also suggests that spiking stress levels, student behavior challenges, and a harsh political spotlight have all taken their toll on many American teachers.

“Education had changed so dramatically since COVID. The issues were getting bigger and bigger,” said Rebecca Rojano, who last year left a job teaching high school Spanish in Connecticut. “I just found myself struggling to keep up.”

Different teachers in different districts make different salaries. Some are making a decent living, but they're in the richer areas. Those who are in the poor districts don't make as much. Should the government turn it into something similar as the government pay scale?

Teachers here in the UK have recently been awarded a fairly reasonable pay award although it's still below inflation.

Covid/lockdown has clearly had a negative effect on a lot of school age children. I highly doubt that the pay award compensates for the extra difficulty faced by teachers currently.

Yes teachers definitely need to be paid more. Their job is super important, they're teaching our youth and future generations. They shouldn't have to get a part time job to make ends meet.

Definitely. We need to attract good teachers, and in order to do that the job needs to be attractive. A significant pay raise will definitely contribute to that.

Teachers are at least getting paid for the time they spend, in some countries the top tech and internet companies have ensured that the government does not acknowledge the time spent by some online workers at home. The government, internet sector falsely claims that the fraud relatives, friends of top officials, who do not spend time are doing the computer work, to get all frauds no work government jobs in the internet sector in a sophisticated form of bribery.
