Should teachers have the right to hide things from parents about their child?

No. I think teachers need to tell parents everything about their kids if it ever comes up. Hiding things only comes off deceptive and shady.

I think it depends on the situation. If the child is hiding something from their own parents but telling their teachers, perhaps there's more at play than we know. Sadly that child could be suffering from abuse, or may suffer from abuse if they tell their parents about certain things so they don't feel safe coming to their parents.

I don't believe under any circumstances that a teacher should ever be allowed to keep something from a parent about their child. I feel it would be wrong and would definitely expect it to be met with severe consequences if a teacher ever did try.

What types of things are we talking?
If we’re talking cases like cyber-bullying it’s in the best interests of the perpetrator, the victim and others for the teacher to tell the parent to decide the appropriate consequences to be given e.g. no/restricted internet access for a certain period of time

Honestly, no. By law, parents are legal guardians of a child and they have the right to know what's going on with their child. If there is an abuse and kid complains to a teacher, then report that, but to hide anything from parents is not acceptable. If kids do something wrong, parents are the one who will answer to the court..

I can't really think of any reason that they should. @Ravenfreak makes a good point about abuse and the child's confidence in going to a teacher over a parent, but this is more of a civil service and public health problem that teachers should be both trained in and have policies on what to do when it happens (I do understand this is not something every teacher is trained in and every school does not have these policies, but that is a different subjec) since most states (if not all) require teachers to act upon this event anyway.
