Trump joked about Canada becoming our 51st state. There are some really good "pros" for merging the two countries, but there are also some cons. What are your thoughts?

Considering Canada's colossal geographical size, I'd say it is next to impossible make it a 51st state.

The only good thing I could see is possibly getting free healthcare but that probably would not even happen if Canada did become one with the United States. There's no way our greedy health insurance companies would stand for free healthcare. I can't think of anything else that would benefit the US or even Canada if we were to merge. I also heard Trump wants Greenland and Panama to merge with the United States as well. I personally think we just need to actually focus on making our country better and the economy, and even if we were to obtain Canada will it even help the economy or make it worse?

I would like to obtain American currency since the conversion rate at the ATM is extremely high.
The Canadian dollar is very low.

I'm sure Canada wants no part of America's firearm and health care issues 😂

My brother and his wife lives in Canada and he wants my parents to move there due to the issues here.

Ridicules. Who would control it all? Trump?

I am Canadian, and we are Canada, not the United States.
I dont generally get into Politics much, but we desperately need a new Prime Minister. We are on the verge of a Depression according to the Bank of Canada. We need a leader alot more like Donald Trump and stop all the wasteful spending on other countries, literally billions of our tax dollars leave the country.

Canada has a completely different identity from the United States and forcing them both to merge would always present challenges. Canada is bilingual with French being a major language there. That presents a unique challenge of it's own.

There are people in New Orleans that speak French 🙂

A big problem is that 85 percent or more of Canadians don't want to merge so this is a mentally challenged idea in my view.

Anyway, assuming it went thru, you'd just have a huge separatist movement, and it wouldn't just be Quebec. It would be a big problem and very costly to the United States.

Note: unlike the US civil war, there is no moral thing (slavery) in Canada to justify subjugating it.

Canada loses if the US merges with them if this is set up really simply. USD is worth more than CAD. There's a better offer with a middle ground and convert the currencies to make this effective.

However, on the positive side, resources could make this deal worthwhile. Strong leadership and support are essential for progress, but I still believe that the cost of living in Canada might drain its own monetary resources, especially with the US potentially taking advantage of the situation.

It will never happen Canada to merge with the USA. It will be a long battle. President Trump has many things on kond like owning Gaza    .

One Canadian leader is now proposing that Europe send it nukes to defend against the USA.
