Should we be able to resell songs we bought from iTunes?

Yes, I think it would be fair if we can resell our MP3, and other media files we bought at iTunes to other people.

I think it would benefit smaller singers and bands with less fans since I heard most singers make most of their money from concert, tickets, books, TV appearances, acting, product promotions (Shampoo and Perfume ads sponsorship), T-shirts, and fan club memberships. If more people know about their songs and media, the greater chance someone will buy tickets to their concert, or buy a hard copy of their CD for the artwork, and lyrics inside the booklet.

No of course not, you don't own anything you buy on itunes. You pay $0.99 for a license to listen to the song on your ipod, you never "buy" music.

Do artists make any money off your purchase? For the most part no, they do not. They get an advance from the record label but most don't see a penny more, even if they sell over a million copies of a CD. Label has to exploit the public and artists some how though so hey it's all in the name of money.

@Gimgak: you can copy the song from your iPod to your PC... right? 😛

btw, yes its against the rules to resell stuff without a license 😉

Sure you can, I'm saying you never buy a song you just buy the license to listen to it.

thats not allowed as far as i knew.
however in our country we are allowed to download everything 😀

Well to transfer the song from your iPod to PC, it doesn't leave your possession

I think when you get technical about it, Gimgak is correct. When you buy a car or a TV, you obviously own it but when you pay to download a song you buy it for personal use, you don't buy the right's to it, the distribution right's are still owned by the record company.

In order for you to sell something you must own it first, and like Gimgak said, you never own a song unless you create it yourself. So that would require the record labels to give up the rights to the song to the first buyer, then he would resell it, etc etc.

Yea. That would be retarded.

I think we honestly should be able to. They shouldn't be worth as much but they should definiatly be resellable!

No- I don't think so, but Itunes songs should be cheaper and go to the artist not the music producer.

Keep in mind iTunes takes more than the average distributor. Though if you're a DIY band, get rid of record company, and add a small piece for a tunecore account.

Why? When you buy an mp3, you don't buy the song. (Depending on the song, rights for a song could go as high as millions. You know how much Metallica makes each time Mariano Rivera gets called out of the bullpen? When you buy a CD, you buy physical property that grants you rights to listen to the music on the CD. When you buy an mp3 (which is NOT physical property) you are granted rights to listen to it. Since an mp3 is not physical property (I cannot hold an mp3, unaccompanied, in my hand) you cannot sell it.

A would say YES. Its like buying and selling stocks? isn't it? It's your investment.

No it's not, you're not investing in the rights to the music. You don't ever purchase music, you purchase the non-exclusive right to listen to said piece of music, nothing more.

You are not investing in the song, the comany or anything. You buy the right to listen to the song. To resell the song is illegal.

The real quesiton is sharing the song just as bad as selling it? Many will present a case yes it is. Premis: The money lost from a share is just as bad as money gained by another who sells it, when it's not theirs to sell.

No. If I were a musician I wouldn't mind people pirating my music, but if they were to sell it for a profit, I would have a MAJOR problem with that.
