This is a debate that we've taken to heart rather recently.
We ordered hoodies for staff as the company winter-wear.
Hoodies are nothing more than a jumper with a hood on it.
It's the criminals who've given them a bad name, not us folk.
I think for interviews and executive meetings a suit is essential.
But for everyday duties in the cold winter a suit is impractical. 😎
This is the 21st century and although some people still hold onto the past we move into the future. What you wear doesn't change who you are as a person. All this rubbish about appearances is trash. Once you get talking to a customer, make them laugh, answer their questions and provide an informal demonstration of the service they're about to buy, you soon realise just how pointless suits are. If anything, walking into a person's home wearing a suit is off-putting as it makes them feel uncomfortable. They think you're "above" them, they think you're a professional who doesn't take nonsense and who wants to get straight to the point...money. They think you're trying to sell them something! Our approach is different. We aren't trying to sell anyone anything! We go in wearing smart, but casual clothes. We smile and look friendly, we sit down and have a chat, even a laugh! We show them what we can do for them and listen to what they want and then we leave with a handshake and leave it up to them if they want to purchase our services. It works! I can imagine many professionals reading this and saying "Shame on you!" but my response would simply be, "No sir! Shame on you! You're in it for the money, not the relationship building with people who are not like you! Everyday informal people." Obviously, for an interview or an executive/business meeting we'd dress appropriately and I'd personally expect my staff to do the same. But when it comes to approaching business from a family perspective there's nothing more off-putting than looking substantially "more expensive" than the people you are talking with on "equal terms".

I suppose it all boils down to the question, "should you do business in a hoodie?". No, you should never do business in a hoodie! Business is money. Money and hoodies don't work! But working with customers, offering friendly advice and support in their own homes, and being part of the family is not business! That's service. Service is not about money, it's about being happy, being comfortable, and being appreciated for the values you provide. How many people in the street do you see wearing suits unless they're businessmen? Personally, I think the frenzy about hoodies is immature. Hoodies are given a bad name because of the criminals who wear them. How many criminals wear smart suits...far more! Take bankers and politicians as a fine example! 😉 We are happy to be who we are...different!

Rat Hosting Winter Wear (yes, it's a nice warm hoodie! 🙂 )

Yeah, it's a shame criminals have gave them a bad name and now stereo-typically everyone who wears a hoodie may potentially pull out a knife on them. I think that the hoodie you've got; Commander, looks fantastic and it looks quite professional and it being on a white background makes it look a bit less mysterious and threatening vibe than what of a black or dark colored hoodie would give off. I think you'll be just fine using that. 🙂

White is our trade colour. Our summer-wear T-Shirts are white as well. 🙂

I know this is an older post but I have an opinion dammit 😛

I think there's a middle ground between 'full suit' and completely casual to the point that you're wearing a hoodie. Like jeans and a shirt, for example. It really depends on the environment as well though - if you work outdoors or in a manual environment then I wouldn't be expecting businesswear, whereas if you work in an office and know you're expecting a client, it can't hurt to throw on something smarter.

I think a hoodie is fine as long as you don't wear the hood when talking to clients since wearing a hood over your head can make you look suspicious like you have something to hide.

I think with companies like Google, Tumblr, and Facebook(Mark Z. wears a T-Shirt in most photos) where people wear regular clothes, running a web hosting company wearing a hoodie is fine.

For a Web Hosting company I think that is fine, I would have the Logo clearly on the back though and to make sure the hood didn't block it, maybe have it lower down.

Also, I don't think hoodie's themselves are the problem, it's how you act and who you are with while you are wearing it, like the shi*s who hang around on street corners asking you to get them alcohol from the store.

Hoodie's are fine

I personally don't associate hoodies with criminals. Hoodies are convenient to wear, especially in the cold weather when a jacket or coat isn't necessary.

Should you do business in them? Yes and No.

I say yes because depending on the type of business you are promoting depends on the viability of the type of attire you should wear. If your target customers are younger aged then it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe your company is Urban Wear or a Skateboarding company. Hoodies are worn by these people.

I say no because if you are running a type of company that attracts big companies or high standing people then you need to dress to impress. A hoodie isn't the type that will impress those type of people.

I definitely don't associate hoodies with criminals, but I think whether they are ok are work wear really depends on where you work.
Plus, white, ugh, no matter how clean you are, they're not going to stay white, and will "grey" over time.

I don't think hoodies are appropriate for work unless they are helpful to your job, such as wearing a hoodie when you are outside doing work in the cold.

I think so if you have a developed potential and you are very smart, clever and all at once
