I'm interested in hearing what you guys think: Should Youtube scrap the dislike button? 🙂

Don't really care. It's not a very prominent feature.

The only ones that will adamantly want it removed will be those making crappy videos and getting constant dislikes/downvotes, so I don't see the point in appeasing those people.

I seem to be getting 2 dislikes for every sciBRIGHT video I'm making, but I don't care. I think it's a good tool as it allows people to express their feelings!

Not necessarily "crappy" and that's the point. It's more of a popularity contest rather than the actual video.

Maybe YouTube can make an option to disable dislike.

Sometimes people dislike the topic, or person, but the video is very well made at explaining the content.

For example, videos which are about Linux may get a dislikes from Apple and Microsoft fans who dislike Linux even if the video was well made.

They should just edit the system a bit. For example:

A person who dislikes a lot of videos, will have their dislike value be only -0.1 instead of -1

While a person who dislikes really selected videos, will have their dislike value as 1.

That's not a bad idea. It'd reduce the trolls out there... 🙂

Exactly. 🙂

They shouldn't scrap this button, if something is bad the owner of the video need to know

In most cases, people click dislike without reason but in my opinion, dislike should stay 🙂

Why? The dislike button tells the content creator whether they did a good job or not. Its not exact. 302 people didnt just dislike the content. But it is a good indicator for whether you did good or not (IE 200 dislikes or 1,000 dislikes)

Especially because of the media attention YouTube gets because of the dislike button, and its search algorithim, they wont remove it soon.

No they should not. If used properly is a good indicator of who like and dislikes your videos and kind of gives you an idea of what kind of audience you are getting.

I think YouTube is becoming more like Google Plus, so eventually the Like, Dislike, and favorite button maybe gone, and all you can do is "+1/Google Plus Like" a video on YouTube which also adds content to your Google Plus profile.

YouTube is now making new YouTube members use their real name, and asking older YouTube members to switch to their real name like John Rivers instead of their channel name like Smosh.

The YouTube website and channel template now looks more like Google Plus.

Exactly. Describes my thoughts 100%. Is YouTube actually considering this?

A good example of how not having a dislike button can alter your perception of a video.

Take Rebecca Black's Friday music video for instance. If you could only see the likes and nothing else(no dislikes or comments disliking it) then it would appear to be a mildly popular music video. It's when you are able to show your dislike of it is when you can see how hated it was.

You need both to truly show the popularity or not of something as having only one does you no good to be honest.

Of course a lot of people seem to fear criticism in favor of racing to whoever says what they want to hear and they only do themselves a disservice by doing that.

I heard that the dislike button helps you anyway. If you had 1,000 dislikes it doesn't affect the way your video appears in search, infact it helps it because I heard that take the total number of votes, but you also get a view out of it too, so it benefits you!

I heard most of the views for YouTube videos come from outside of YouTube from the owner of the video and people who embed your videos on blogs, forums, social networks, e-mail, and websites like how Rick Roll became so popular from 4chan posting the links on 4chan.com.

I think having a lot of likes may get your video posted onto more quality websites from web master looking for quality content, and videos with lots of dislikes may get posted to troll website, and blogs where web master troll people for failing at something.

I'm rather mixed on it. There are many who abuse the dislike bar, but it can show the quality of a certain video as well by first glance if accurate.

Honestly, I don't care. I'm of the opinion they should remove the comments section, though. I have yet to see a semi-popular video that isn't filled with either spam comments, or arguments that have nothing to do with the video in question.
