Signature Links

Whether or not the signatures are seen by search engine bots, depends on the forum. If the forum is using no-follow tags for signatures then your signature links will be be recognised by search engines. For example, Sitepoint has no-follow tags on their forum sigs but Forum Promotion doesn't.

My opinion is that forum signatures are well worth it, for the simple fact that forum members are generally very willing to visit and support sites owned by their fellow members.

I think if they are seen in most posts then you will have a very good chance of getting your link looked at and possibly a new member but if the person only has a few posts then it would be very unlikely.

If you post on a forum with hundreds of active members and you post 10+ times a day you can get decent traffic. I personally always think of real members before i worry about search engines. Some people concentrate so much on getting high pagerank and so on but i feel getting and advertising to real people is better as while doing that you can get PageRank and noticed by search engines. That concept has worked well here.

fowler, thanks for the advice; need to pay attention too both i suppose but members are the most decent thing
