Does anyone here use Simple Machine Forums for a forum host? Do you like it and why? I'm thinking of moving my forum over to it and wanted to do my research before potentially ruining everything. 😛 Right now I'm on Zetaboards, and I'm pretty happy with it I guess.

What are you thoughts?

It is best for you to try it and see if you like it. When running a forum, you need to be comfortable using the software, managing it (modifying it/updating it) and you need to ensure if meets your needs.

^

Like fowler has said it is best you try it yourself.

I myself love SMF as its admincp is easy to use, tons of packages, tons of themes, and a great community.

I have heard a lot about SMF and how user friendly it is, but personally have never used the admin end of it. If you decide to go with them please let us know how it works out!

Download and try phpBB, MyBB and SMF. Choose the one you like the most.

I couldn't help but notice that you referred to SMF as a 'forum host'. I believe you are a bit confused, SMF is a forum software, not a forum host. Zetaboards is a forum host, they give you a custom software and they host everything for you, SMF gives you the software to download, then you must upload and install SMF on your own host.

My mother uses SMF and she likes it, except for a few areas. Things like thumbnails(mod) don't backup when she tries to back it up, and she doesn't want to update to the newer release because it always breaks something.

So it's up to you, I would do what Kavin said and try all other free softwares and see which one you like the most.
