I'm getting the following error on all my sites:

DNS ERROR - ACTION REQUIRED !!

Site Visitors: Please Contact Support

It looks like the main host website has been suspended. I tried calling the number of the domain from Who.is, and they said I had the wrong number.

What can I do? 🙁

Can you contact the host in another way? Twitter, Facebook on a forum? You should also find out who they were hosted with using whoishostingthis.com. Then you might be able to contact the upstream to retrieve data before it's deleted.

I certainly hope so and I'll try. What else can be done?

I'm with Viggit.

Isn't Viggit owned by someone on here?

It appears as though the owner, Daniel, has owned some other webhosts in the past. Not sure whether he sold them off or closed them down and the domains were picked up.

It seems that he purchased his server from Versaweb.com. You may want to see if they would release the data to clients.

Hopefully this is a simple billing mistake and Daniel will come online, pay the invoice and the service will be put back up.

Daniel is not the owner, Jessie Williams is. Daniel is no longer with Viggit.

Any links to his profiles online?

Hopefully you have backups on your own computer or flash drives, you can upload to a new host and point your domain to your new host.

Best to stick to established / well-known hosts with a good reputation.

I'm pretty sure I have some olders ones when I moved to Viggit from a few weeks ago. However, I'm going to try and see what can be done.

Hopefully they'll come back to at least let people access their files. Kinda messed up to just vanish like that.

Exactly. The right thing to do is explain the financial situation you are facing in advance and ensure that you continue to pay for your offsite backup server so that clients can access their data.

I've contacted Versaweb, hoping to find out what can be done.

I hope all will work out for you I know how it sucks when a web host goes down. I recommend JaxVPS - I use the shared Hosting and VPS servers. Been with them over 8 years. Jeremy is a good friend of mine so If you need some help or anything contact me and I will get you in touch with him.

I'm now getting Web Page no available errors on my sites. 🙁

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time here. This is a nightmare that no admin wants to wake up to discover.

Unfortunately if they aren't responding to you via email (twitter or anything like that) then there may not be anything you can do. The host may have closed down and been dissolved. And any/all files hosted with them may be gone permanently.

Hopefully you have a relatively recent backup of your site that you can use to restore/rebuild? Or even just your domain so you can temporarily point to somewhere to at least explain to your members what happened?

I remember this happening before with other people I knew from when I used to blog using a domain. They were hosted by a guy named Darren. He supposedly had connections to a site that was using a dedicated server and let people host there for free. Gave them root access and everything. I was hosted with him for a bit but he kept hitting on me so I left. (still hits on me to this day if I ever talk to him)

But he ended up disappearing. I heard he got arrested or something and the hosting site went offline. Took over a month for the dedicated server's host to resolve this issue. The girl that was still hosting with them and had many free clients herself was trying to contact the dedicate server's host but they couldn't bring the site back up until Darren contacted them...he didn't for almost a month. Once he did they brought it back up for 1 month for the people to grab their backups and leave.
It was a nightmare. At that time I was also hosting people myself but I stopped because I realized that I was just like Darren because I'd leave and come back and leave and come back and yeah....

Anyway, Sounds like something like this happened to you. I'd try calling the number that is on your domain page (that you copied and pasted in your first post) and then I would also find a phone number for the business you are emailing and call them over and over again until they pick up and you can get some real answers. Most likely though if it is anything like the situation I described above, you are probably SOL until you can get that owner to contact them but you can at least give it a shot.

That's why I start backing up my files once a week to my external hard drive. I backup the databases and everything to make sure if this ever happens that I have the files and posts that were posted on Sunday.

Good luck!

I spoke with Daniel who used to be with Viggit, and he said he's busy with his newborn child and his new job. This really frustrates me, still nothing. 🙁

I wouldn't know much. Nick A. (the owner of RamNode) is always very responsive and dedicated to the webhost I use. I don't really have any suggestions except use a host that's been around for a while, not saying new hosts are bad, but I'd rather host things I put a lot of effort into with older hosts.
