SPOILER ALERT

We've been always told that Vitamin A is good for the eyesight and we have been encouraged to include it in our diet since childhood. But did you know that it can cause toxicity? Beta carotene is a better form. It only turns into Vitamin A if needed. Significant amounts as well as too much Vitamin A causes toxicity. Skin desquamation, as seen in the image above, is one form of skin loss caused by Vitamin A toxicity. Looks awful, isn't it? We should consider beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and bilberry for our eye health instead. This helps prevent Vitamin A toxicity while promoting eye health.

Doctor here.

Viatmin A toxicity (also called as hypervitaminosis A) is a very very rare disease. Infact, the picture you have shown above is more attributed to Vitamin A deficiency because it is responsible for a healthy epithelium, which is basically the layer of skin you see outside. It is worth noting here that Vitamin A deficiency is very common that countries have incorporated as far as 9 doses of Vitamin A in their national immunization schedules to be taken from age beginning at 9 months to 5 years.

And carrots are very rich in vitamin A and is recommended as a supplement food in deficient people 😀
