My pc has been much slower recently and i have a feeling that i have a virus. When i run scans on AVG and malwarebyte , it always says that there is no virus but i have a feeling that the virus is deep into the system and the av cannot detect the virus. is there anyway to find out whether i have a virus or not or speed up my pc?

thanks.

Your computer can also be running slow for other reasons such as to many programs and processes running at the same time.

It could also be from your hardware.

---------

If you want to make sure it is not malware of any kind try this -

First download kasperskies tdsskiller. - http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Run a scan with it,it will tell you if you have a rootkit or not and remove it.

I also suggest running trend micro's house call - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Last and not least try running spybot to see if there is any spyware -

Post the results of each here.

If none of these programs find an infection I doubt the problem is malware.

IF this is the case I can help you step by step make your system alot faster.

Could your computer be over heating, I read that some laptops and computers slow down the CPU clock when the PC gets too hot to prevent heat damage?

Also go to msconfig, by typing msconfig in the runbox and clicking enter then go to the start up tab, and uncheck all programs except for your antivirus, firewall, and security software to see if it can speed up your PC by not having so many start up programs start up.

A computer also tends to slow down if it has less then 20% free space on the drive.

Try running a disk defrag, and disk clean up to see if it makes your pc faster.

No infection was found. It looks like that there is no virus. 😀

Okay here is what you will want to do next to help system speed.

1. Run disk clean up start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk clean up. Run that and clear anything it finds.

2. Next run disk defragmenter start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defrag

That will defragment the machine it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours.

After doing those two things open msconfig and go to start up programs. Disable anything in the startup you know you do not need to run start.

Post the results here.

Try to defrag your computer.

Make sure you defrag when NO other programs are running and leave your PC alone..so meaning, don't touch it.

Probably a good thing to do this overnight.

Do you have many programs running or have Pando Media Booster or anything like that? Pando Media Booster screws up your internet, that might be only for me, but I'm not sure. Your pc might also be running slowly because of many programs running at once, or just try restarting your computer. 🙂
