Pre Smash Camp 2016 Info

Hello everyone who reads this! Yes, Smash Camp is still a few months away. To be somewhat more exact, Smash Camp will likely take place in late June. We have never really done a post talking about it this much in advanced before, but there's an important reason for that.

We need your help to make the 10th Smash Camp (9th year) the biggest and best one to date! I'll try to keep it as concise as possible and get right to the point

For those new to Smash Camp

To start off, the most important thing is just for you guys to spread the word. To any friends that you have on your respective forum or to any on other communities you go to. Spreading the word and getting people to join the hype will make the turn out that much more wonderful when Summer comes along.

Event Suggestions

Now, the next thing is something we've never done before. We have our usual events that are presented for each new day. However, we also want to run more side events that aren't restricted to a one day deadline. We want you guys to suggest events that you think would work within a 5 day time span(obviously some events you should try to keep it down to a few days and not the entirety of Smash Camp). Get creative with what you guys want to bring to the table. If your idea is great we'll contact you and let you run it yourself during Smash Camp! Your event can be a vital part of the experience which would be amazing.

You can suggest events at the link here: http://smashcamp2016.com/pages/events/
(Note: If you are not registered to the forums, it is open so that you can register.)

Staff Applications

The other thing is something that might interest a lot of you as well. We are still in need of some staff of some sort and we want those who think they have the experience to apply. Make sure you have a significant amount of time to dedicate to this event if you do apply.
Positions Available:
Counselor - The leader of a cabin. You get to lead your teammates to victory and get to manage them the best way you can.
Crew - Sort of like moderators. These people will get to watch over the forum to make sure things do not go wrong and will also watch over certain events as well.
Leader - An Admnistrator. You will be a key part in coming up with daily events. You can also get this position if you have vast coding or programming experience as we will possibly need themes and the like.

You can apply here: http://smashcamp2016.com/pages/application/

New Forum Affiliates

Last but not least is something that'll help attendance big time! If any of you here have your own forum that you administrate or are staff on or even if you are just a member on(make sure the staff on that forum is interested if you're only a member though as to not cause some sort of unintentional trouble), you may submit an affiliate application to us. We'll accept you if you only have 10 members or if you have 10,000 members. We just want more and more people to join and enjoy this as much as we do every year.

You may send your application here: http://smashcamp2016.com/forum/1712945/ (Just make sure to read the rules so you may use the template)

Final Words

I hope this interested some of you that have participated in the past and those that haven't participated yet as well. Thank you to those who read this and I hope it has given you some excitement as for what is to come this Summer. I apologize if any of this seemed cluttered or difficult to understand I guess the excitement just shone through. If you have any questions feel free to contact Boss or Curry on the forum or shoot us an email at [email protected]

Thank you for your future cooperation and stay tuned for more!

Is anyone else looking forward to this event? I know it'll be a lot of fun, personally. 🙂

Who's entering their forums?

This will be my 6th year of smash camp. I'm looking forward to it. 🙂

Hey guys I'm one of the people in charge of Smash Camp. If you wish to message me, you may do so here or on the site (for smash camp) or via e-mail.

If you're a member here with your own forum, you may affiliate with us just as Reverie and Hissae have done in the years prior.

I look forward to further cooperation between all us communities here.

Can you maybe update the section "For those new to Smash Camp" to include a bit about what smash camp is? (And thus why we'd want to spread the word about it.) I mean it's not clear at all and none of the links/pages listed here give any sort of clue either.
I can see a brief explanation being useful for those who haven't heard of it or maybe have heard the name but have no idea what it is (like me).

Hi guys, my name is Curry, and like Bossvelt, I'm one of the people in charge of Smash Camp this year. Much like Boss, if you would like to get in contact with me you can PM me here or on the SC site.

To answer your question VirusZero, to summarize briefly, Smash Camp is an online summer camp of sorts. For one week out of each summer we get as many forums involved as we can to all converge onto one for some fun. The general idea is that there are four teams, "cabins" we call them that we separate everyone who joins into. Everyone is mixed up so it's not Forum Promotion vs. everyone else but you will be inter-mixed with people from all over the internet. For example, another forum that will be joining us is called The Bell Tree. So in this case, you from Forum Promotion will more than likely be on the same team as someone from The Bell Tree.
What happens from there is the main event that we throw though. We take a whole bunch of different talents and have competitions for them each day. We do everything from writing, to drawing and graphics, to gaming tournaments, flash games, there's a lot of activities we provide people with so that everyone can contribute in some way.
The idea is every time you participate in an event, you get points for your cabin. Then, if you do really well in an event, say you place in the top 3 for the writing contest, you score more bonus points for your cabin! The cabin at the end of the week with the most points wins.

I hope that summarizes it enough for you. I'm more than happy to answer any other questions you, or anyone else, may have.

It's definitely a fun event that allows members from different forums to work and get to know eachother. The events are probably my favorite part - especially the race to getting everything done! 🙂

I see people talking about this forum every year and I never really payed attention or bothered to see what the fuss is about. From the descriptions posted here in this thread, it seems like a role playing forum and the theme is summer camp? As for the activities, I'm not much into writing, designing graphics or playing flash games, so, I guess I wouldn't be very useful to anyone's cabin?

It isn't a roleplaying forum. But it brought together many forums during the summer. So kind of like a summer camp for forums to participate and get to know people at. The goal is always to be the winning cabin. So yes you participate in events like writing, designing, or flash games, even in scavenger Hunts. It's really all about getting to know new people around forums and connecting with like-minded people. It's almost like another way to advertise without actually advertising as well.

Hey Joe, that's a great question! It's not really a role playing forum, the only "role playing" aspect of it is that we basically call it an online summer camp. As far as RPing, that's really the extent of it. The real goal here is to just get people to join up and meet new people, we like to have a wide community across many different forums like Reverie said. At the end of the day, that's what we are really going for and the extent of the RPing is really just calling it an online summer camp.
As far as your talents, those skills you listed are only a select few of what actually gets highlighted, we have many more that are utilized at Smash Camp, and if you want to make sure that your talent gets used, just drop us an email at [email protected] or just submit a suggestion to us which you can see in the OP.

How do you communicate with other members and how much time do you need to spend on activities each day? Is there a prize for the winner?

There are the Smash Camp forums, and the activities are quick and easy.

Time commitment?: It depends on how involved you're looking to be. If you wanna go for top scores or play in the tournaments it takes a bit more time, but you get points just for participating in any activity and those participation points usually take you about 10 minutes. Like I said, you can hardcore it and try and win the specific events or just hang out and participate for points, so time gap/devotion can range.
Communication?: Like Giogios said, the primary mode of communication is the Smash Camp forums themselves. Over the years people have made Skype groups, Discord chats, etc. for their cabins though for outside of the site communication.
Prizes?: There are prizes! As far as the winning cabin goes, it's just bragging rights. There's a Smash Camp trophy that has each years winning cabin # and counselor on it. As far as individual prizes, there are lots of Steam games and even some cash prizes.
