SMF 2, phpbb3, or MyBB?

MyBB has a few good options now that are not vBulletin-related. Do check them out. Generally speaking they've been good to me. Also, Audentio's released some good themes (but are not free).

If you want SMF, go for a Crip or a dzinerstudio theme. Both have consistently been good.

What kind of options are you speaking of by the way? I know mybb 1.6 is out but I've got to say it was very difficult making discussionpalace look that good.
And I'll check those out. 😉

Anyways I know you have already decided SMF,but I would like you to know theming for MyBB is very very easy. Infact I am willing to say it is the easiest free forum software to design for.

Hmm. But then again most of the themes look like the default and aren't that good without heavy customization I presume.

If you are meaning SMF yes alot of themes are pretty basic. However there are some great ones which can be found at places already stated. As for mybb there are tons of custom themes and well made ones. I will also note SMF is no longer allowing very basic themes to be submitted anymore.

It is your choice on the software you choose,but you will not go wrong with either SMF or MyBB.

When I meant options, I meant themes, sorry 😛. But yeah, the themes movement for MyBB has really been towards Arial themes, which a lot of guys haven't been doing on other software.

But do check out the paid options, even if you're not going to buy them. XenForo is excellent and IPB looks to be improving with 3.2.
